the cheapest good one is $10 for usage white laptop. (cd with program in the box) elm327 (no-can bu cars, just old OBD2) of ebay, even cheaper, prices.
my favorite in hand held is Innova 3160. huge coverage even air bags and ABS. does all OBD2 can-bus cars, new. to present. 1996 to now coverage.

Thanks, I might begin with a very cheap one, the elm327. But I`ll definitively buy something strongger before end of winter. I`ll go with someone you`re suggesting. I didn`t know there were something for holder car ? Does it Worth the buy ?

Just finished to install the new(used) starter. It cranked and started first crank. Kind of funny, I just realized that in the Sidekick there`s no tachometer! It would be useful to have one for all test regarding idle. My Tracker have one, I could make the swap. I`m wondering if I`ve got to install a complete cable ?

Anyway, the engine seems to run really nicely. I`ll get it in my garage for the weekend to begin différents tests.

yes,2wd has no tacho, cheap buzzards...
there are lots of clusters, many do not swap, i have a very complex cluster page.
i had to a 91 4wd cluster in my 91 2wd,(converted to 4wd, whole car)

if the connector matches it will work'
they have many connector combos.

a differnt cluster for all things, even axle ratio or m/t and a/t and 2door and 4.

Kick, my dash really looks like a newer one I`m pretty sure it has been replaced. I`ll check if I can just replace the area where the speedo and the tachom are. I bet there`s was a tachom before, I`ll check this weekend if I can see the wires to plug in it.

Im not sure what car you really have
year, engine ,transmission , a/t,m/'t and speeds, doors, 4wd/2wd,
i can tell you exact match on parts if i know this.

It`s a 95 Sidekick 1.6l 8v, 4wd 2doors. I`ve been told(can`t garantee that) that no tach was mostly for 2wd.

As I said, I`m pretty sure the dash has been replaced. My bet is that it has been replaced with the one with no tachometer. I could saw last night that there`s no light in the dash. So going to look at it today.

I could live with no tachom , However I find it a usefull "tool" when you need to do some adjustments , particularly for idle......

the bottom tag part number now
what fits
and what style, (size pins and locations) on yours.

the 2wd has no tacho, its on 4wd only'
the parts lists show this clearly, i have full illistated parts lists (books,etc) i hand

i have the above condensation i made and the full pdf of all head made all EPC data ,on heads.
note they had 8 clusters, just in USA, mPH clusters, not KPH, lots more would wide and the stupid dick nixion 85mph bs heads... tricky dick we called him,
i bet your 4wd cluster lamp is dead too..(UNLESS last guy ,added the lamp there, as can be done)
you have not stated the transmission, and that matter too. 3/4/5 sPEEDS?
like overdrive lamp, and P?N mode for 4speed. etc.

the variances are huge, even cal/fed
the fed has nag switch wires. the calif.does not, but since i remove all nag wires, they are same head.

and now swapped.
in fact i had to use 3 heads to get 1 perfect head.

i can also match up internal parts between heads, have that list tool

so parking lamps are dead in cluster
turn the dash dimmer up.
or PO;s love to steal those to make lower lamps work, a dirty trick and easy fix.
if the speedo works that is blessing ,most make huge noise, bounce or stick
the bottom sticker tells all
some lamp that are missing, dead) say you have 4 speed, (still dont know) and the P/N lamp is out
you may find the circuit there and only the lamp holder is missing. I cured many like that.
to find out what really there in 5min work?
a flash light , at night
shine in the lense,see all lamps and all names on all lamps, all those can work, with sockets present

the cheapest kick made was
2 doors
2wd
5speed
and no tacho
and with top off,weighed in at 2000 lbs even, very very light car and joy in snow or off road.
nimble is the word.
no a/c
no p/s
no air bags.
no ABS
very very inexpensive... and my favorite one... 91 is first best one.

I`ll read all those infos at least twice just to be sure I won`t miss something !

Btw, my 95 Sidekick is manual 5 speeds. However I gave you wrong infos. I just went back in the little 4x4(as it`s now dark outside). the only light I got is for the line above speeometer. engine, oïl, ! , 4wd , belt. everything else has no light. My 4wd is on so the 4wd sign appears in green.

I`ve also got a 94 Tracker autom 1.6 8v 4wd(now as a spare parts) that as the tachom in the cluster. I was thinking of taking that one.
