when the front needle bearing goes bad (gross loose)
that allows the mag cup to hit the spinning drive magnet , when that happens the needle slams to max speed at near mAch 1 (lol), and bam , destroyed, all do this about not, or just before this,
see them do it at 150k short miles.... sadly
the needed is mag drive, (nothing touches drive) the spring calibrates this mag, balanced actions.
finding heads in 2017 is super heard, (working ones)
try car-parts.com (wreckers net)
use the dash there.

first noise
then jerking (if not the cable bad)
then slamming
then destruction
all do that, driven far.

Now I am worried about the used speedometer head I am using. I think I need to source a new needle bushing.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I will try to post some pictures later. I assume the screws in the back connect with terminals from the reed switch. There is nothing for the screws to go into. Does anyone have a picture of the back of the face assembly with the speedometer gears in place? I thought I could possibly put another reed switch in with terminal connections if I knew where everything goes. Thanks again! Greg

I only have a broken one from a 1996. I just took a look at it and like clockwork, the mileage shows 150,101.

OK guys, I got some pictures if I can figure out how to attach them. I will post them separate cause I'm not sure about file sizes.(not very good on computer stuff) Maybe this will help identify the problem. Greg
