Code for Sidekick Sport
#31
The stat has been replaced with Stant 14378 and the surround ring 25281 or 27281 from rockauto.com and it had been running without problem for several months. Now it has the same problem again! Do you thing the rockauto Stan dead again!!

NO NO NO< I am only telling ALL THings that can  make any AC fail,
thermostat is but one, I always list all things that way others reading do not skip #1 all time famous #1 top cause, of overheating. and AC goes off line every time with that.

not only that but this post began with themostat ,  so why not start a fresh post with AC failure, like this.

J18 1996? sport thermostat new and  tested fails dead AC./

see how posts work best,  with facts backing up new failures.

deleted answer, no need me teaching AC diagnosis  if
1: no desire to learn
2: no tools
3; and fears even a simple voltmeter.

so no help from me,

keep in mind, I can not or touch your car nor inspect it for things obvious to me wrong.

May be the ECT is not working properly causing this issue and the AC compressor to stop running??

I don't think so, IDK,
but measuring all AMP pin voltages we can awswer that easy and the high low dual AC freon switch for 12vdc on both pins, is answer #2

the AC has its own engine overheat switch if the wire falls off or is wrong sensor or bad sensor there for AC sure that fails sure, and AMP pin on same at 12vdc same failure
but I waste my time with you, you fear the voltmeter so nobody can help you ever. (in a text box)

later we lean it was only a loss wire under the dash.... common on very old cars. all this.

"Maybe the ECT is not working properly causing this issue and the AC compressor to stop running??"
If you need to ask this , there  really is no hope.

The link is not working?  (why are you so lazy to read post 1 on this forum, read it , the full AC pages are there, in 1996 FSM, read chapter 1B, it is there to read now for 10 years, only looking there works.

Condenser fan? not working since no working of the compressor. Both fuses, where are they?  (the J18 books cover that) RTM , really look.
one fuse is in the fender box right marked clear as DAY AC. see that, was that hard to find?
the 2nd fuse is moved in J18,  next to front fender fuse box or is inside the left knee cab fuse box marked same way. try looking first,
you know J18 books are hard to find, gee rare to the extreme as is the car TODAY.

The AC 25 fuse next to the battery is there, not blown?  are you asking how to tell blown here or what, IDK, what you are asking, if it has 12vdc on both side key on then it is NOT BLOWN.

Where is the other one?? The temp on the scan tool runs between 212f to 217f.
AGAIN 215f is normal as is 5% errors, there, AGAIN.

My scan tool does not have graph for o2 sensors. (it is no real scan tool, it is only a toy) cant fix modern cars with toy tools sure.

the front fan must spin does it?, in front of AC condensor there is a fan there does it work and spin,  gee is this hard just looking?
no AC is dead with no compressor, NO COMPRESSOR means NO AC, for 100% sure.

The G16 and J18 cars both have the same AC,  the schematics show same pin numbers on the amp even.
the only differences I can tell is they moved some fuse,  (hardly end of the earth thing that, if you learn to look more carefully)

my guess no is
total fear of a voltmeter
and dream of repairs , lacking tools.
seem so to me.

if you had measured all amp pins (and you did not) then the answer would have been found. (sigh and a waste of my time, again)

we always do this. in order. ( to not cause more damage is why, ok/?) "first do no harm" to it or you.first things first rule .
1:check that the low side port of the test freon port is above. 30psi. if not we FIND OUT why first, and fix it next (always for the end of time this) if not you wreck good parts, hint we find the leak first.
simple logic and facts.
2: then FUSES. (both) using omg a voltmeter. (12v both side, of a fuse key on = good)
3: hi/low dual switch not 12vdc on both sides key on. (again simple voltmeter check)
4: THE AMP pins for correct input voltages, if not correct , tell me what you read for voltages. pins 1 to 12.

compressor clutch dead. makes compressor dead,
front condenser fan dead tell that too, AND NEVER ONCE DID.

then ask questions so simple as where is something. it is in the book for sure. if books correct for J18 , I only have  few pages from J18 books not all, ever.
I have access to the two Sport AC diagrams, don't know if they the same or different??

Can you tell me the two fuses where exactly located?? One fuse, 25 amp I know it is the right fender in front of the battery. Where the other one??

The problem solved. The AC shop cannot find it they suggested to an electrical shop. Something which is not related to recharging the refrigerant at all, it was purely electrical inside the AC amplifier. They removed the AC amplifier box out and replaced something which is I don't know. Thanks for help anyway!!

great no more loose wires to AMP
the other fuse is in cab box or under that block rubber covers next to main RF fender fuse box. outside the box. is rubber lumps look there see
fuse and AC relays on all 89-98 sidekicks for things you can not find.

i told YOU THE AMP MUST BE HAPPY , IT IS LOGIC AND THAT IS ELECTRICAL,
I TOLD YOU TO TEST ALL INPUT PINS TO THE AMP, IF WRONG ALL amps SHUT DOWN AC, BY DESIGN ON PURPOSE TO SAVE DAMAGE TO AC OR THE ENGINE.
ALL DO EVERY ONE DOES.

THE AMP PINS WERE RUSTY, THAT IS WHAT WAS WRONG
THERE ARE NO OTHER AC ELECTRICS UNDER DASH IN THAT SPOT BUT YES IN THE HEATER LEVER PANEL. BLUE LIGHT LOGIC.

RUSTY PINS CURE, until next week.?

or it is intermittent problem real and mechanic was fooled.

case in point, Freon™ at 29psi and Hi./low switch trips, then person fixing car (blinded , no tools) freon pressure goes up 1PSI as day warms, and AC starts working.(kinda)
what is wrong here?, answer freon charge wrong and you never checked it first as IS THE RULE.

if you do not understand AC basics it is very easy to get fooled.
loop pressure must be right , both statically and running AC max.
facts. and is FIRST THINGS FIRST THING.
