id have removed the whole assembly and rebuilt it on my bench.
welding it all up , so its better than new.
assuming the spline is not stripped., (some have a spline)
not fun working under a dash, all day...
but been there.... good luck
hint 2, remove drivers seat.
then put a sleeping bag on floor
now you can work and get get a bad back.
