Water controlled IAC...

Fixkick,

I didn't take apart the IAC on the TB when I had it off the car. Should I have taken this apart and cleaned it?

Do you have any photos of what's inside this part? I believe there are 4-6 screws which hold it to the throttle body. I was concerned about getting a gasket for it if I took it off the TB.

Does this device only operate when the engine is cold and then when it warms up, it shuts off the extra air supply?

all it does is race the engine, cold to 150F, then closed, that be it.
it does not dismantle.

Ok. So it's not often a source of an air leak? I think I read somewhere that this circuit is pretty reliable.

rare but happens.
it's easy to test, 2 ways,
off car in hot water (tested just like the THERMOSTAT, cept to blow air through it. hot/cold)
or on car block the port, when engine coolant , is hot. (if blocking it hot, causes no RPM change, its good, and if idle is fast cold, then it working cold)

as these cars get older, some are 22 years old, these parts will fail. and are very hard to get.
all that matters, is that they work now, not what might happen, as all things, like this will fail, eventually.

Fate my friend, fate. Very well crafted parts accompanied by good maintenance usually extend life a little bit more.

you can not extend the life of many parts. (brake linings? clutch discs)
here is a list. (other than, park it and never drive it)

1: a thermostat. (See the video on netflix. "how things are made", add see thermostat; the engineer states why , if simple terms.) 100 year made and still the same.
2: an IAC. works just like the above, and with same weaknesses. and(costs 60x more) wax breakdown, and wear, in the same ways.
and when you remove it ,10x to one, you will snap off the screws and need a $1000 throttle body.
3: spark plugs.
4: spark plug wires. caps , rotors. cop boots, cops.
5: hoses.
6: belts. (there are better belts but all are doomed in 20 years or 300k miles)

worse yet , suzuki dont sell IACs, no p/n assigned to it.
only a whole Throttle body with it attached,
the aftermarket dont have it either. so if yours works, feel blessed !
my iac was bad and my only source was to find a whole intake manifold cheap. all parts. and a good IAC, by pure luck.


what can be extended is fluid changes can in fact make lots of things last way longer,
engine
trans
axles
and brakes.

this isc can be had by Airtex or SMP
the iAC nobody sells. so fate is it, when it fails you get to search all corners of the earth, like many parts on this car.

Where is the port that needs to be blocked if it's on the car?

Do you have a photo where that air enters the TB?

lots of ways to leak air. lots.

here is my crude drawing that makes it easy to see all paths.

all leaks below the MAF or bad news. (unless cold, or unless ECU asked for it)
