Hi, my Sport valve cover gasket is leaking engine oil and I think it is time to replace with a new one. What do you think about the ones from the Domesticgaskets company I find on Ebay? Or I need to order from rockauto.com? But the shipping there is horrible!
I am also planning to replace the timing chain. I already got the OSK one with the p/n S601K from Japan (my friend who is studying there had helped to buy them from the factory) but without the idler gear (sprocket). Do they usually put the old idler sprocket back in?
Thanks

most the parts on fleabay are junk.
why not just by the FELPRO set.
every store in my town sells it and if not get it in 1 day or less, NAPA gets mine in hours.
why use junk parts in an engine,
here is there parts
http://www.fixkick.com/engine/97-motor-p...ge_63.html
not even close to fitting, its a knockoff clone, and is junk.
Felpro is the name, only there parts fit. and last.
I use top brand name chains,
the job requires, looking first at the real engine. we cant guess if sprockets are bad, while drinking tea.
we look first, if the teeth look like sharp points they are no good. (goggle how to examine sproket wear)
the the chain test is extend it then crunch it up and the difference is chain wear, all chains made have a max wear spec, for this one test.
and guides, you never said guides and they are really first, after all if bad, the chain whips and the chain fails early ,so guides.
OSK is good , if not counterfeited.
see the gold side plates, and works JAPAN stamped on side, then is prob. real OSK parts.
do not buy parts from EBAY for engines, ever.
if you must, then make them say the true maker name and Pn. and that its not from china. most are, some photos are of real chains, and you get china name that cant be even said in english (called no name parts)
buying good parts today is not easy,

Everything is in the box, except the idler gear!
My friend cannot find the gasket for the 1.8L engine Sport.
You said FELPRO set, could you give me the link to their site?

ive no idea where you live.
parts are found by towns.
unless all is mail order.?
and even that , many stores in usa do not shop outside here.
I get all parts from NAPA> in town, have 2 here.
the FELPRO ecat is on line now for 5 years, now. if fact almost all parts makers now have ecats now on line,
in canada or usa,?
same catalog
no year stated so ill guess, 1996 J18 sport engine
http://www.fme-cat.com/Application.aspx?...0)(-)&ga=Y
id did that google, + felpro ecatalog bingo.
VS-50633c
I boycott google in truth, but use duckduck now.
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=VS-50633c&t=h_&ia=products
if you ask any auto store can you get felpro parts
never heard a no, ever,
all can.
and if nice they can even look it up and tell you then number, all can here., in texas.
top quality end to end.
good luck on your chain install.

id never touch china head gaskets with a 10 foot pole. no me.

Thank you for the links
Yes, I believe in your advise!
It is like in Cambodia in the 1980s, we used to be under the Vietnamese occupation for 10 years, we always said "Never touch the Vietnamese Products". These days, we take that to the Chinese as well.
By the way, concerning the whole timing chain cover to engine, do they use gasket or apply sealent or nothing at all?
Thanks again,
