Tracker gears 1,3,5 not working
#1
Thumbs Down
‘93 tracker. 5 speed. 4x4.
The up gears 1,3,5 will barely go into gear, and I have to pull VERY hard to get the stick out of gear. Bottom gears 2,4,R work flawlessly as normal. Transmission has plenty of oil. Bushings and spring on top are fine. Clutch is not the problem.
Having a hard time finding information on this problem. Anybody else have this issue?

you did not say what you are doing with car,  what roads, dirt or pavement, nor flat or hills.
you did not tell me if in 4wd or not (mean front hubs lucked for sure  if answer is 4wd)

reverse grinds? reverse is square cut gear no synchro mesh, so is the MINERS CANARY GEAR , as in first to grind first sign of bad clutch.
is this s 2wd question?> IDK?

getting information on gears is not ever easy lacking facts not told.  (and many posters have no idea at all what part time means)) my jeep is PT. WK jeep.

in 4wd, (part time 4wd laws/rules/physics) one tire must be on slippery surface, or the drive line will WIND up, and shift'er too will bind up, all or some gears.
that is a fact of part time, as this car is. (not full time)

this happens on dry pavement and part time does not work on dry pavement at all, thus the word part time
offroad yes, on road no,    on road takes ICE or snow on top of pavement but is not really pavement that, it is ICE)

my 1st guess is  stuck in 4wd. on dry summer pavement (correct me if wrong,  IDK your roads or location on earth)

aswswer 2.
The car fails in 2wd and for sure front hubs lockers are not locked, now. hand tested, spin tire , on stands, axles do not spin, test passes.

the plastic twinky device here is bad, never seen one good, me. unless I had my mits on it.   Part ID fail #27 loves to fail, its only cheap plastic,
ID 13 time 2 lost transmission leaks and burns up. #2 failure

I have had the front hubs locked in for about a year now, ever since I found myself in a predicament and couldn't get the hubs to lock in right quick. It is just a Farm Tracker so gets used now and then. So I unlocked the front hubs, fired her up and spun around a few times and wouldn't you know, works like a dream. Thank you much.

great ,
4wd in dirt (farm) is ok
your 4wd lever may be stuck too.
