the links i put up are not that
its car-part.com (see that dash)? and no trailing 'S"
its not a store, its linking network to all N.American wrecking yards.
use it to find heads, or ebay.
the connectors on the rear must match, most do not, bought used, ask for help here, or see my head pages..
the network only shows , yards that claim to have a head, (as you might expect it can go away in 1 second due to live walkin's (or pic-a-part) customers.
correct:
http://www.car-part.com/
this part is the most hard to get of ALL parts on the car.
vast number of heads,
many are now broken in many a way.
or make noises.
or the needle on MPH twitches. madly.
and on an on an on.
I had to buy 3 heads to make one good head.
that is what its like in the used head business.
sorry...for that.
my slide show. (ont one is a sport, however, its different, too)
http://www.fixkick.com/sensors/speedo/sl...index.html
the heads, all have a bottom sticker, this is the suzuki or gm part number,
this works, every time , matching that, but most sellers are clueless to this key number, so.... making the process near impossible..... SLIDE #18 shows this magic tag.
good luck!

what's wrong with yours?
what's wrong, tells me what might be a cure.
if the MPG needle is noisy
id neuter it, and run a GPS MPH, on the dash mounted CELL phone, (free software app) or a TOMTOM, used full time, shows speed.
there is a way to neuter it and keep VSS working, for sure.!
one solution to many many problems...
bad lamps are easy.
they also sell stand alone MPH gauges, that are GPS.
summitracing and ebay. both have them.

Thanks.
Mine, the MPH and the trip meter (the vehicle speed) just stopped working completely sometimes ago. But for now the 4 speeds seem to shift as normal. However, sometimes I don't notice the third and the fourth gear is shifted or not, the first and the second are always feel them engaged. I am afraid that something related to the auto transmission might happen soon!

trip, and odometer are same, device inside, that means the cable is bad. all 3 years (SV418 is car real name) have a cable here, flex speedo cable drive.
never does mgp and odometer/trip fail, all at once in any head with cable drive good. if one thing fails, then head is bad. ,see?
the 3 devices inside run off the cable in PARALLEL.
what are the flash codes for the TCM?????????
this is first, always, anytime the trans shifts wrong, the TCM, the TCM does all autoshifts, and if inputs are wrong or dead to the TCM it reports them
the TCm on this car has 2, VSS sensors.
the main one on the end of the trans
and the backup, I call VSS2, in the speedo head, this is a backup only. so the TCM can keep shifting if the tail sensor fails.
the tail sensor can need cleaning, they can grow hair (metal filings found in all trans) can land there and packup up there due to the VSS magnet inside,(hall)
see>
96 sport, 1.8L
seen this yet
http://www.fixkick.com/CEL/4-spd_TCM%20codes.jpg
there are the TCM codes.
for 93and 97/98
in 1997 the TCM moved inside, the ECU, and scans with any OBD2 scan tools shows, both TCM and ECU engine errors, at once
the 96 and older, the TCM is outside the ECU, in its own box and needs to be jumper clip diag tested. jumper it and OD flashes codes see above, 2 digit codes.
you know that?
when you drive does the OD lamp flash or act odd????? this is first first.
that.
The TCM in the 96 does that. means trouble with inputs to TCM or with trans,

i do not know where the 1996 TCM connector Diagnostic DLC resides. only on G16s do I know. this car is very rare. (only seen one ever)
on the G16 its between the drivers knees. mounted to the steering column, shell,
someone told me the SV body J18, Sport car, they deleted that tcm connector and put the pins added to the new OBD2 DLC connector
but I have no schematic of that.
The way to find it is get the TCM schmatic and trace the wires from IT to the DLC
its only 2wires, this wire is , TCM diag. and you only ground it to get flash codes
the wire color I think is.
blue wire.
jumps to blue-org on all G16, 1996 and older , 4speed.
I see the Blue-orange wire going to DLC connector 2, pin 1 on some 1996.
the TCM has many inputs, we have all that documented,
any input wrong, is a suspect.
at right knee, do you have a blue wire here, or blue-orange, or both??

id put a new speedo cable on it. its not expensive. the cable, like $25 .
the cable can fail, in many ways,
1: fell off either end.
2: bottom end failed, stripped out index pin on tip of center cable, seen that.
3: gears dont turn in speedo housing at trans. its 2 plastic gears , never seen on fail, on the above,2
4: the cable can snap , when the cable seizes, all do that, after long service.
