No spark to coil on '93 kick surprise
#11
check spark directly out of the 1 spark coil top (tower)
if bad next is diag jumper DLC jack, see of DTC 41/42 this tells what is wrong.

https://fixkick.com/CEL/DLC/DiagJump.html

Code 41/42 cuts all fuel if set.
by law and for real.
cranking for 5 to 10second max may set 41 or 42

41 is coil dead (spark)
42 is CMP in base of dizzy 100% dead, or cam belt snapped or stripped and crazy OFF TIMED.

many folks worry to death fuel is dead. when it is spark dead. and the wreck fuel parts chasing the wrong ghost.. blowing up ECU too. not good.
test at the spark coil
use a new spark plug connected to the spark wire (borrowed) and other end to spark coil direct for good spark , gap 0.028 " set.
see scotty do that

he does this late
https://fixkick.com/CEL/DLC/DiagJump.html

and if is dead, we move to the coil , next.
the coil must spark or we work that first. not fuel ever.
cam belt snapped at 100k miles is PAR there, for sure it is bad that old.

the pump used a DC motor , with carbon brushes.
the carbon wears down the springs for them pop out, and short out. BOOM fuse blows, no fire.

there are some new pumps called brushless, silent , from bosch , that the key 3 times test you hear nothing, that is their bag, silence.
good luck to you

OK, it’s been quite a few months since I’ve had time to work on this tracker. 1.6 L 16 valve no spark I have traced my grounds and all the wires that I can find checked and replaced ignition components and the computer has the newer capacitors so I assume it’s been worked over sometime recently other than that I know almost nothing about the vehicle and I’m thinking maybe it might be a timing chain issue or crank issue which I don’t know much about. How would I go about determining if I’ve got a jump belt jumped over or the keyway issue with the crank? Or just direct me towards a thread that I could follow I would greatly appreciate it. I’m determined not to give up on this Little, as I’d had so much enjoyment over the years with my samurai and sidekicks, and my wife would like to do a little mild wheeling as we travel in retirement  Have not been able to dedicate much time to it whatsoever as I’ve been trying to fix my Harley and that was rather extensive so I’m back on the project. Thanks so much for your input.

One thing I forgot to ask, is there any particular codes that I should look for that might indicate a timing or crank issue?

1992 sidekick,  4door,  16valves, G16B engine right?

keyon CEL  must glow
then when this jumper is planted

the diagnostic connector under hood, jumper in place.   (4 or 6 pin DLC<  which one is yours) guess 6
jump 2 to 4 (unbent paper clip jumper)

key on, CEL lap flashes code 12 for happy. or see other DTC errors now. (share them all) please.
the CEL MUST not be dead. or thE ECU is dead or its fuses blown.

yes crank for 5seconds  release key not turning it off (the rule IIRC is crank spins 10 times or more)
see code 41  DTC o r 42 is spark failure.
If the ECu sees the tachometer  wire dead , it will tell you it is dead.

42 is dizzy cmp sensors dead, or cam belt snapped or stripped out.
41 means tachometer single dead. (41 and 42 both can happen) they roll out 1 at a time 41 then 42 , repeats.
the top cause of dead G16 engine, & compression weak is the stripped out cam drive belt.
when the belt does that the cam timing is grossly retarded, (late) or the belt snaps. and dizzy rotor  does not spin.now.

keep in mind this car loves to strip out crank end  bottom cog key there. not torqued to 94ft/lbs.

even a bad ground to the dizzy kills spark dead.

the wiring is like this, 16v up to 1995
the ECU creates spark, but needs  working CMP
see pin A4
https://fixkick.com/ECU/92-95MPI-eng-sch...e-huge.png

the dizzy  blue/blk wire most be 12vdc keyon.
bk/green is ground 0v.
the spark coil blk/white wire 12vdc key on
the ECU pins A12 and A13 must be 12v. same power as wire to dizzy above, blue/blk
all ground seen on ECU must not be  bad, all are 0vdc.

check spark only at the spark coil HV lug , unless it passes this test.
good luck to you.
