#1
Need help was sitting in the Suzuki listening to the radio and I took the dome light bulb out. When I put it back in it arced and radio went off. When I started the car the check engine light came on. I know have no radio, dome light, running lights, tail lights and the check engine light is on but it wont read any codes. Any idea what I did. I checked and even replaced the fuses and nothing...

When I put it back in it arced and radio went off. That blows the DOme fuse,
the radio fuse is wired to radio fuse, but some folks wire it it up to whatever fuse they want with aftermarket radio added.
the dome fuse runs the radio memory wire only on a stock car an power the TCM and ECU memory wire.stock.

When I started the car the check engine light came on.
I now have no radio, dome light, running lights, tail lights and the check engine light is on but it wont read any codes.
why not replace the blown fuses first.
Any idea what I did. yes, you shorted out the power to the dome fuse, your supposed to pull the battery NEG lug, before doing electrical work.
for sure on hot all the time circuits like:
1:head lamps
2: DOME
3 , ECU , TCM
4: starter
5: alternator.
6: head lamps.

I checked and even replaced the fuses and nothing...

do you have the list for fuse locations>
97 sidekick is it a G16 engine or the J18 sport, both are totally different cars. and wiring all diffr, too.

no, shorting the DOme power feed should not damage anything but the fuse.
the fuse is just for this event, imagine if no fuses, you get a fire, shorting any power feed.
the fuse blows instantly, protecting the car and you, just like fuses in your home do.

let me look at the SPort wiring, ,back, in a flash.

oops one more question, is car a CANADA car, with DRL (daylight running lamps, ) they run them there, and by law, and are wired totally different than NON DRL cars.

the usa car
has a fuse marked trail, dome , so you can see , if you blow dome, tails are dead (all parking lamps dead)
that is a 15amp fuse in the dash box.
the IG fuse runs ignition and Radio on this car, (stock, ) so if you blow IG fuse , no engine can run,. on 96-98 sport.
i guess the head lamps work and engine runs. so , you did blow fuse.
dome/park/tail is cab fuse #11
keep in mind fuses that look good can in fact be bad. use use a voltmeter or ohmmeter to test fuses, live. for volts, or in hand for ohms. (fuses that look bad are always bad)

my guess is you dont know where fuse 11 is, nor its location or it looks ok and is not.
so l show you the fuse box.
