Flywheel touching oilpan?
#1
92 sidekick 4wd manual
Replacing clutch, looks like flywheel is too close to (maybe touching) oilpan.
Please see picture, any thoughts? (I tried to add a picture attachment- doesn't seem to work)
I really don't want to have to take the transmission off again.
Thanks

ive no idea what you see,
the add to gallery is easy,
steps:
1: most camera's have photos big as school bus or larger, 5000+ pixels
2: so reduce it to 1024 wide. pixels using PC paint, click resize save.
then up load it.
or put the photo on any photo site (endless) first then link it.

there is no way in the world for any flywheel to hit the pan
is this a 5 speed stick shift car, clutch tells me nothing much, TCC torque converter clutch is for A/T Box;. so....

no engine stated, 8v or 16valve in uSA, there are 2 engines, this year, and the 16v has bigger disc clutch due to 15 more horse power, and torque.

replacing word,
what does that mean, I did it already or in the process of replacing.

really photos must be posted or any answers will be wrong,
did you remove the flywheel then put it on backwards? there is no spacer on 5speed box, like they have on A/T box.
8v here.

the pan has 3/4" lip so how can it touch the clutch no way.

did this car run before? by you, or buy it in "AS IN condition" dead, and wrong parts. on car. history matters. in this case.

the disc offset must be to the rear, not front. (photo is correct)

let me guess, you tried to bolt it all up but the gap ,will not close. bell to engine.
that means the disk is in backwards, most times.
the 2nd reason is not using the alignment tool above, and the splines do not align up.
if all is right (no parts backwards)
you can bump the starter, to get the splines in to the DISC hub align with the 5speed pilot shaft splines, a 1 second bump.
the other way is rear prop shaft is on the floor , is it ?
then only put up the front end only, not rear to axle 4bolt plate.
put the trans in 4th gear (this is 1:1 ratio, 4th) and hand turn the rear prop shaft yoke by hand this will align splines too.
that is my guess.

Sorry for the delay, but the pics and text helped alot, I finally got the clutch in, it was very close but I guess it was supposed to be that way because everything is working for several years now. I never could figure out how to post a picture on here, guess I gave up.  The clutch is still a little "grabby" as it always was, but it works much better now than it ever did when it was replaced by an "expert". Never could have done it without fixkick.com, and really appreciated the advice about fixing the little leaky oil seal that leaks into the clutch area--that was what oiled the clutch in the first place, and if I hadn't replaced that tiny gasket as advised here, it would have just gone bad again.
Thanks much

yes they put a silly vent on the bell, I call the oil vacuuming pit.
silly that. one could RTV that up so oil can not go to mt clutch.
the A/t flex plate and parts there have spacer that can be missing
but no such thing on this MT. but is close. fly to pan rim.

a new ycable can care a grabby clutch
also the clutch pedal loves to crack and if does make pedal act crazy and would be grabby.
a flash light there finds it easy any cracks. there.
sorry so slow me,. no email warnings of new post on this site

clutch cables bad, is grabby, inside the cable, it wears a groove no human can see (xray?) and now grabby. bad. get rid of it.

yes the sidekick has self oil lubricating clutch from the DIZZY, a real pain that.

warning lots of difference sizes of that cable.
here the lil' buzzards are.
