Door won't unlock/open
#1
Picked up our "new" 1994 Suzuki 4dr 5 spd Sidekick yesterday. Seems like a delightful vehicle - runs well. The front passenger door wouldn't lock - with the key and the door button wouldn't go down. Took the internal panel off, unclipped the rods and removed the locking mechanism. Lubricated it carefully and it seemed to work again.
Put it all together and closed the door. Now it won't open with the key or internal level and the door button will not come up!
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Be kind please... Pavel.

ask a lock smith to fix it?
seem the lock is failing, not the key part, not the inside, rod to knob
but the actual door latch, in the jamb is failing.
with the door panel off, and you exercising the latch at the latch inside, rods off, and it fails, the latch is failing, (can be just needs lube or is bad , fate rules here)

Unfortunately, the vehicle is at an isolated location, so bringing in a locksmith isn't practical (I only get to the location once a fortnight or so). Thought to attempt to find the same mechanism in a wrecking yard and study how it works. Perhaps then I can figure out a way to open the closed and locked door from the inside...

I'm wondering if there isn't some kind of spring loaded "cog" inside the lock itself - perhaps an internal spring is broken? If I had just left the door unlocked...

the lock is door jam latch
take it off, and photo it.
or clean it and lube. it.
its just a latch that has a lever that unlucks it. those rods go to the unluck lever, if the lever is stuck then ,bingo, its stuck, only cleaning it and lubing it can sure it , besides a new latch.

sure it can be broken, stuck , rusted or even missing parts.
sure., but that takes looking; at it,
some door latches need and impact tool (or gun) to remove large #4 Philips screws, under huge force put on, do you have tools like that, a shop does .

its a very simple device a latch, and looking at other cars, will no help ,they use different parts. (details matter)
i have the p/n ,

see that lower rocker lever, that is the lock unlock lever
is the lever jams, that means, its jammed in side. the lock.
only clearing that jam is the solution besides 111 bucks.
clean it?
lube it
hope happens,

screws marked #7 can be tricky to remove, luck happens
but on my car , the impact driver tool , worked. only

as you can imagine having this lock get loose driving is a man killer (or kids in back)
so the screws are very very tight , new.
