Distributor part for Tracker missing?
#1
Hi All,

New to this forum...I can see some great stuff here!

I wonder if someone could pls help me?

I'm in Canada and have a 1997 Geo Tracker, 4 door,  1.6 liter, 16 valve, SOHC.

This has a distributor with coil and igniter stuff inside.

I took the distributor cap off and can see a black plastic high voltage (HV) post with brass tip coming out of the distributor that fits inside a tube of the dizzy cap. In the tube of the cap I see a thin diameter wire coil spring. So when re-assembled the spring would press directly onto the brass top of the post mentioned above. In my limited experience I have never seen a spring set up like this and would expect something flat, etc on the end of the spring between it and the brass top of the HV post.

So my question is am I missing a part or is that how it should be?

Thx

Bill

Hi all

FYI
Had to replace distributor.... as CMP sensor broken;  so I could check set up in replacement unit.

Turns out there is no part missing and it is supposed to be spring directly contacting top of tower brass tip.

If this info helps someone...great

Regards

Bill

most times best place to see good choices is , rockauto.com, even if only to look at brands and p/n.
