4wd light stuck on - because of EBCM?
#1
1996 2 door Geo Tracker 4wd

The 4WD light has been stuck on for some time, so I decided to dig into it today. Checked the transfer case 4wd switch first thing, it was fine. Traced and tested the wiring harnesses back to the firewall, found some questionable splices and wear and repaired those. Still stuck on, even with the switch disconnected.

Then I see in the service manual that the brake control module (EBCM aka ABS module) gets that wire too for some reason. So I try disconnecting the EBCM and boom the light starts working normally. So that makes me think the EBCM is forcing the light to stay on.

Trying to figure out why the EBCM would because  forcing the 4wd light. Is it trying to complain about a fault? Is it malfunctioning and shorting the 4wd wire to ground? Any ideas?

well that is all wiring errors if the sensor is unplugged the sensors only grounds then line to set the lamp glowing
wow that is very odd the EBCM wires to 4wd lamp. but suzuki does do odd things some times, i guess short of exrta lamps in the cluster (not not this case)
the tradition is brake lamp just one lamp for all types of brake failures even hand brake.

we have the full 96 fsm from GEO free to read. was hand scanned back in 2006 from paper to PDF, wrecking the source done by famous person. MR actfaq
in 1st sticky post page shows this

https://acksfaq.com/HTML/trackerfsm.htm

cluster page 81 shows pin 3, green/blue
the 8a-44-2 , but brake lamp is blk/red
all yes, page 3, on that 44 page.
page 3 shows that the ECBM uses that wire as and input only. not and output
if 4wd is enabled by you , ECBM goes off line or uses very tricky antilock profiles, I think it goes off line this year,
unplug ecbm moduel so c1-pin 6 is not connected. page 3

the schematics are here.
any missing can be rounded up.
