what year Liberty? why not lead off with year, ? I WILL GUESS AT 2006.

how many miles on this car.
which engine there, v6?  3.6L gasoline or 2.8L diesel? guessing gas.
the DTC errors vary by engine and car maker, in many cases... so do not read the lies seen on line, that mix many cars and engines DTC. ok?

that thermostat error, may hid these errors. fix the bad thermostat first.

0016 CHAPTER 9,2006 FSM (means real factory jeep service manual) (the manual states this is a 1 trip fault) not 3.
P0016–CRANKSHAFT / CAMSHAFT TIMING

MISALIGNMENT

p0344 (the manual states, this is 3 trip fault RULE) means tend to hide, so resetting it and thinking it is fixed, not waiting for 3 days or 3 trips you get to thinking it is self fixed and is not.
P0344-CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

INTERMITTENT. ( one can only hope this is the only problem.) just one bad sensor. CMP on the head cam end.

2006, K is the letter in 8th spot on Vin#
3.7 engine. Has 178,000 miles on odometer.
However, Mechanic feels this is not the original engine.

the engine has serial number too and jeep can look that up and tell you its year. (on all cars in the USA this is possible) by law too.

it is a very common service item, like brakes, belts ,wipers, car batteries. tires. (even hoses)
some parts of cars can go 300,000 miles easy, but not this.
the chain on the cam is a 250,000 mile life span, common so sure beats cam drive belts. with frequent oil changes that is.

when the chain gets loose the CMP sees that , and compared to CKP knows it bounces.
a loose chain makes noise too (odd)
if not the CMP may be bad only.
most shops would replace the CMP first. or pull the valve cover off and jog the cranks shaft and view the chain action to see if it is loose.
the problem is that the chain tension-er can fail. and only it is bad, then latter, cause chain to stretch.
so if CMP swap out fails to fix cmp errors (0016) then the whole chain is replaced and hydr. tension-er, and is expensive parts and lots of labor time, 6 hours at least. the FSM shows the steps, it is huge.

Only had Jeep running for the last week and half. When I try to start it, I am turning key on several times and having to accelerate in order to get it started. Also notice sometimes I get nothing at key on, no noise, almost like how a starter goes bad.

now starter dead
is this car AT or manual transmisson.
the car cranks in Neutral and park did you try both positions ?

when you turn the key , this sends start voltage ST to the PRNDL switch in the A/T box, then if in park or neutral , it passes to there starter.
I hot wire the starter solenoid to test starter + battery

the battery must be charged
the battery cables most be not corroded or loose.
the starter must not be bad.

if hotwiring an starter solenoid show dead, then battery/cables/starter are bad.

tell what car you have first, drive train, my jeep M/T, I have no PRNDL on my jeep ,but has clutch switch.

clean battery terms first? that be first any time its intermittent.

I know you,  star2525 from far back as 2007. welcome back, (i remember your hard to drive on drive way.... rocky! )
welcome back,  I see you emailed me, that is ok too.
ok 2006 jeep liberty,  3.7L (I have 2 jeeps with your engine, one is wrangler one is grandcherokee
I have the full books and all 3 jeeps, full FSm

is this Jeep you have with automatic transmission?
if yes use both park or neutral to crank start it.
to crank in neutral  you step on brake key on and move the selector from park to neutral then crank  or the shifter is locked.
this trick uses fresh switch contacts in the PRNDL switch box,  of the selector.

to cranks over ok, but wont start and wants more air, using accelerator means it wants to flood, and your trick adds more air and it starts.

keep the battery charged, clean lugs.
keep battery lugs clean.
if will not crank, move the gear selector back and forth  a few times, and even wiggle it cranking can fix it.
or wiggle the key to at start turn far right CW clock wise the key and jiggle it a bit,. this too can wake up its contacts.
these are all tricks not cures ,just not get stuck somewhere..  just keep foot on brake during all this .

your thermostat is not bad, I had 2 windows open at once and mixed up my posts sorry.
getting old now,

yes the CMP sensor may be bad,  only.
this is the only cheap fix for  code 0016 and 334.  if lucky only that.

the cmp sensor is only $16 at rock

https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/jeep...ensor,7192

and even removing the old one, cleaning off the end (lots of gunk on end can cause it to read wrong, )
I'd not touch a quite chain , unless this was replace first, the cam sensor. it is.

"The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) on the 3.7L 6-cylinder engine is bolted to the right-front side of the right cylinder
head." (seated drives perspective , or passenger side right head top front end.

that is the top of cylinder bank right,   seen from right fender .
top right side, pop it out , 1 screw, and clean it and put it back
or put in new one.

there is no steps to tune it, it fits in, only one way.
