1996 Sidekick JLX Sport 1.8l Auto Transmission replacement with 1.6l?
#1
Brand new here and happy to have found / joined.

I have a 1996 sidekick JLX Sport 1.8l and need to replace the auto trans. I can't find a 1.8l and I have seen that the 1.6l will work, but you have to use 1.8i bell housing. Is this true? I sincerely hope that it is as I have put approximately $7k into this little monkey, and I need it to finally take me down the road. Can anyone help me with this little problem? I would be forever grateful.

Thank you in advance!  Big Grin

just get a real rebuilder shop do the rebuild
the G16B box is
03-72LE GM/GEO RPO code M41: LE= E for Electronic.
the base transmission is used on all these cars. A44DE made by Japan AISIN company/

using other boxes can be hard to do
the TCM must like he box and for sure the gear ratio's, besides just fitting.
or ratios for G16 is Ratio’s: 1=2.83:1, 2=1.49:1, 3=1.0:1, D=0.73:1 and R=2.7:1

any shop that does toyota transmissions will not fear any A44DE .
and MAZDA, my wife has one in her Mazda MX5.1999

odds and ends this box.

are you sure its bad?
and not just rusted up and jammed up kickdown cable.?
tcm errors on speed sensors or solenoids shifters?

does manual mode fail./

as stated here, this is so cool on this car.
