why not just replace the filter? a clean filter never hurt anything, and the crap off the bottom of the pan, cleaning that, is not going to hurt anything.

But on a post before that i wrote

Change the filter and hope for the best is my way then. Too bad I only got aware about proper maintenance so late.

Car shifts fine so far, and it could very well fail tomorrow (fate)and then I would need to resolve problem like right away.
But if changing the fluid leads to this lets say this next weekend then I would find myself in a tight spot, even though the total fail possibility is close but has not happened yet.
