The voltmeter has saved me many a time.

1:OMG FAN BELT FELL OFF
2:OMG2, ALTNATOR DIED,drove home fast, made it.
3; battery died.
more than once, and saved me big money on tows.

the silly oil light goes on at 3psi, too late.

there are aftermarket gauges that have programmable low pressure warnings. IMO 3psi should kill spark. as some cars do... even honda generators do that 120vac gens sets ,emerg.
