yes find some slack
the center cable wire is square and must index to the rear speedo port ,same shape
the collar there has fingers that grap rear speedo nipple. with groove there, its the finger that get bent out. just push them back to get the insertion process to luck up.
the rear of speed, the cable end here, has a lock, not under hood

the square drive end ,indexes most easy with bottom end of cable , un done. disconnected from tranny port.
but luck happens if car has not moved.
