Pulled Valve Cover - A few surprises....
#2
that vanish , is normal. all engines do that. old hot engine, bakes the oil and it makes varnish, its not a problem.
the lash is set at TDC at each cylinder firing, not all at once, or the suzuki way, stated in FSM.
search "lash"
http://www.fixkick.com/t-belt/LASH/Lash16v.html

the 60k checks need a newVC gasket set )felpro has it, or it will leak, the PO failed to do that so jerry rigged it with RTV sealant.
every 100k engine ive seen leaks up there and the 2 Dizzy o-rings.

btw if that sealant gets in the pan, (sure will) and then gets sucked up in the pump (so easy that) it has even chances of going to the head gallery
and then sticking in that very tiny cam 0.050" orifice there. and then the cam burns to a crisp.

RTV only belongs in one tiny spot on the engine. (under rear cam cap) then cleaned off , before the lid goes on.
ive seen many engines wrecked with RTV,
the factory uses it on the pan, but is then cured and flushed after. (it is an engine killer.)
seen it in bearing shells, all the time and blew out the bearing, every time, the gap is small there.)

my lash pages shows both ways to set lash, classic or suz. way, and indexed to FSM pages actual.

the classic way , works on all engines
is set lash on heels of cam., they are in plain sight and oh so easy to see heels.

the lash is .006" (6 thou) not 60 thou, 0.060" that will beat the stems to death. 60 thoul
