Help Me!!! ECU 33920-60A90 wanted!
#1
Hi, I live in Vietnam and I have a Suzuki Sidekick 1990, two doors, 5 speed Manual Transmission MT, 1.6 litre, original from Canada market. My ECU 33920-60A90 is bad.
I find it's very hard to find this ECU. Someone said that the ECU 33920-60A32 is compatible for my car. I don't know whether this statement is true or not. Please help me on this problem.
Beside that, if anyone have more information on my ECU, please let me know.
The attached images are from my ECU.

welcome!
The G16a
the early cars are very rare. and the 60a ECU's are same, rare.
but you can run any ECU with 60A in the front.
what is unique about 60a, (not 56bxx) is that they do not generate spark, only fuel back then. "totally unique that, looking forward"
see the list? here.
http://www.fixkick.com/ECU/EPC-ECU96-98/...9-95NA.pdf
im not sure what a A90 does there are many types after the A and suzuki never published them.
the 43 is Automatic, and will start and run ok in the M/T
i think all 60Axx will run.

if it was an automatic you'd lose many things.
but not with M/T

why not ask for help fixing yours.?
what is wrong?
dead CEL
dead injector. please do tell. the 2 tops fails are like a $5 fix.! caps and injector drivers. easy to fix. (unless acid damage is huge)

the ECU does not make spark so its not that.? but of spark read back fails the ECU cuts fuel on all cars.

Thanks FixKick a lots.

I don't know much about electronic and machine so I don't feel confident.
With the help of the Forum, I will try to examine my ECU. Firstly, I will replace all the caps and injector drivers.

My car is still in good condition and it functions well. But the "check engine lamp" keeps flashing all time. When my car ran with 44 - 62 miles, under the outdoor temperature of 95 F, the engine stopped and there was smell of gasoline. After 30 to 60 minutes later, it became normal again.

Anyway, I still want to look for an ECU 33920-60A32 for backup purpose, because my car has been used for more than 20 years already.

Question: Are the locations of Capacitor and Injector Drivers marked correctly in the attached image?

sure , those are the caps. there are a row of transistors there, some are injectors others are a regulator;.
is that your ECU or a stock photo?

these are old cars, and they get lots of failures, the ECU is just one part;.
would you like to do real diagnosis or just guess?
engine have over 150psi compression?
so engine starts then floods after a time. ok, we have 2 symptoms now, floods and stalls.

CHeck engine flashes? well does not this car have a fuse box fuse marked diagnostic, and if the someone forget and left it there?
http://www.fixkick.com/CEL/DLC/Fuse-with-diag.jpg
see that, and if there, flashing is 100% NORMAL, its in DIAG mode. so what is the flash code, 51, or 23 or what? code 12 is NORMAL.
false pause, flash flash , longer pause , repeat. 100% NORMAL
so?>???
if that photos is yours , is it, those brands of caps are not know to fail, only the black rubycons love to fail. all can but not like Rubycons.

did you make sure that the injector orings dont leak. ?
off the air horn, look in the TB air horn and crank and cut the key 3 times, as you cut the key the driver tells you, IM CUT and you make sure the injector
does not leak. as key goes OFF, the KEY off kills ALL INJECTIONS in 1/1000 of a second.
if the injector tip leaks that is one failure call that x
if the injector rings leak , they are bad.
if the injector leaks, we then must test the injector drivers,

the ECU can not inject correctly with fuel pressure at 60psi
so we check pressure, oop, its wrong
and test the fuel pump regulator.
are you lost now, and only hope to fix cars by guessing, its near impossible on cars. for sure old. some have or 3 failures, the drivers ignore.

but you are correct. lets see if the ECU is bad, i have 8 tests on my bad ecu page, ill recap them.
1: fuse out (diag above) I key on the CEL must glow. steady. not flash.
2: start engine, the CEL goes out. if not , it wants to tell you why, so that is next.
3: we put back the fuse. (diag) and we key on, the flash codes now are called fail DTC error codes. there can be 1 or more errors. flashed 1 by one
4: ok i get 12s that means its happy.
5: so I install the Diag fuse. and drive, i get 12s, all the time, then at 62 miles the 12s changes to something else. BINGO?
6: or the ECU will not glow ever, or it glows but will not flash , on demand (diag fuse means demand) (not you.) next
7: The Codes 12 abort, its flasing 12s or some other code and it aborts, does not finish the code, that means the ECU crashed, (see bad corner cap top left)
8: ECU is in back up mode, (no CEL glows ever)
9: ECU is in Failsafe mode, this is normal mode, it means the ecu sees and error and drops to this mode, and driver of car fails to see oh my, its flashing code. 32

fails safe is called limphome by others.
in limphome the car will burn tons of fuel, 15mpg or worse. forget that, learn to read the flash codes then ask for help.

VN country but what does the engine bay fire wall tag look like, here is one.

the hard part of testing the 90' injector (TB)
is this ECU will no turn the fuel pump on,at keyon, making the leak tests harder.
to do it right, it takes 2 persons.
on at key
one staring at the injector tip.
http://www.fixkick.com/fresh-air/Slide_S...age_6.html
at key off , the inject must HALT all injections instantly, or something is wrong.
The other test is the injector leak down test, (ask)

the driver.
so use an ohm meter and find the 2 injector pins B8/B17
and using a simple continuity check find the 2 transistors like did 91-96
here is the schematic
http://www.fixkick.com/INJECTORS/89/89-90schem1.jpg
B8 and B17 pins>?
we can in fact use a simple NOID lamp to test these driver. ask. (its on my injector page)

btw 2
this ECU does not make spark'
only the DIZZY (distributor makes spark)
so if its bad, the ECU will inject too much fuel, and it will stall, (cant burn fuel with no spark so its not the ECU fault at ALL)

what if car stalled because spark fail, and BTW 3
the ecu will flash a code, Diagfuse inserted) driving and car stalls, it will flash. code 41, so long as you dont turn the keyoff.
code 41s are rest to off, key off.
tricky but you need to know that. to find lost spark.....

the ecu cuts fuel with all code 41s, by law, (no crash and burn rules)
so 41s rule the world. here.
The ECU can not see actual High voltage spark only the ignitor, kick back pulses. (coil is working on primary side)

these old cars are infamous for bad, caps.(ECU) and bad VR /ignitors in the DIZZY.

lets id car first.

Thanks so much for FixKick's instructions.

This is exactly my ECU. It's the 33920-60A90 of Suzuki SideKick JX 1.6l, 2 doors, 4WD 1990 for the Canada market. I have used it for more than 20 years and I love it. It's the only one car of its kind in Vietnam.

Today I will use the Suzuki Vietnam Services to examine the fuel system of my car because I don't have tools to do it. But the Suzuki Vietnam Services is very bad.

I find on my ECU's mainboard that many soldered joints rubbed off because of acid erosion. Follow FixKick's instructions I will ask an electronic engineer to examine, clean and replace the caps.

The attached image shows my car runs today in Sai Gon City, Vietnam.

welcome back .
bingo, that is a Canada Federal Car, see maple leaf sticker to the right (1/2 of it shown photo 1) . Thanks for Photo, I collect these and add them to my show.
still fitted with EGR main valve I see.
does it have a CAT converter at end of exhaust heater manifold?
the Caps leak boric acid at death, i'd get a used working ECU. and make this old one a spare,.
the oxygen sensor on top of the Exhaust manifold , is that wire (s) missing there.
there are many used ECU on ebay here. but you must find one willing to do shipping , so far.

the trick to making that ECU run right
would be to neutralize that acid (backing soda works)
the repair copper PCB trace damage.
and last new caps.
some are so bad , its hopeless... if the acid is heavy and long set.

Hi FixKick
After i cleaned my fuel system, replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump, and replaced 3 caps of my ECU, my car now runs really well. I will install the O2 censors into my car, but i do not know where is the wiring to plug it in.
Thank you so much. Very appreciate your help.

I'm so happy for you, ! getting it to run right.
I am glad to help you.

I look at the o2 sensor , there on top of the exhaust manifold and yours is missing. oops.
there was a connector with a harness to the rear.
the FSM book has harness views at the end, of book ,but i dont have them.
the 02 wire(s) colors very by makers (bosch ,denso, etc) decisions.
but the harness wires are suzuki coolers.
it's just 1 Red wire, to ECU pin A19 The casing of the sensor forms the other connection, ground.

Most 1990s have just one wire, no heater.

I have a schematic here, (with comment flags) see page 3
it's a single RED wire and connnector.
http://www.fixkick.com/ECU/89/1990-scan-...lpages.pdf
the BOSCH pn is 12050
the connector is round, and very unique in the world of suzuki connectors.

this is 1991 (i dont have 90 photos at all) the harness behind the master brake cylinder hides this connector on 1991.

Hello FixKick
Finally i bought the ECU 33920-60A31 for backup purpose.
I just placed it to my car this morning and it's compatible with my car, it works so well. So I think it can replace the ECU 33920-60A90.
Thank you so much and Happy New Year.
