Engine & tranny 94 to 96 swap question

no tag is USA, or Canada.
its usa FED.
you have just a VIN on the dash.
so its a USA FED export to Puerto Rico
and not the Puerto Rico , E60 market car, they actually make Puerto Rico kicks.
GOOD, ALL is known on E03 FEd USA kicks, market 03 car.

you need to learn what the ending of your tranny looks like.
a Black adaptor
or a the tapered casing end.
this is the first step if you need a tranny,used or new.

These are some great news. BTW Im working on my other car tranny (remember the civic 87 that I had rebuilt the engine). Is just inspections, fluid replacement and clean up.
BTW would you happen to know why manual tranny fluid turns greyish? There are no water/coolant lines to it. Actually it had like small blobs. Internals are great looking no rust or damage.

gray, must just be old. lube.
is this A/T box? or M/T.
A/T gray is old and or was overheated.
M/T gray is old GL4. (amber or clear is normal)

or some additives were added and the 2 chemistris, collided. (resulting in GUM or other nasty mess)

sorry , gl4 is API Gear lube@ 4 for gear boxes, M/t
the fluid (lubes) get dark for many reasons, non good.
full of metal dust.
water ingress. contam.
or someone mixed lubes, or additives.
just way too old, (time, heat, and the constant shearing action of the gears.)

i was just guessing GL4, the owners manual shows what it really needs.? but see below.
most boxes uses GL4, or and Some AFT, and others use 10w-30 engine oil.

in fact, some motor cycles the gear box and engine pan are all one in the same. (it's a crash box , no syncho's at all)
some gear boxes have special synchro's just so they can run , non GL4 lube. (YOURS?)

87 honda civic, m/t box. ill quote the FSM. (need one they are free for honda's)

"On the Civic manual transaxles, use an engine oil labeled for SG use or better. Use 10W-30 or 10W-40 viscosity; the 10W-40 viscosity is the safer recommendation, especially if you expect to be driving at highway speeds for prolonged periods in hot weather.'

maybe someone put GL4 into the box, not knowing the correct lube to use.
this would top my list.
on a strange car I never attempt to guess what's there, i drain it and put in the correct lube.

Oh thanks for the info. Actually I do have the FSM for my car. Is just that I had never seen a M/T gear lube that nasty looking and grey since knowing that only a kind of motor oil is needed and tranny has no coolant cooling lines either. I will check those manual anyways. Thanks!!

also one more fact
today there are all these lubes that are different colors just to make them sell better, Gimmick.?
clear, amber, violet, red, and others.

the M/T dont over heat like A/T , the A/T has a clutch that loves to slip, , slipping , turns ENERGY to heat. (takes torque and wastes it to heat)
the A/T even states to the the stall test for 5 seconds max ,due to overheating it.
On big motor homes they have even more ATF coolers to stop this horrid heating effect.
non of this happens in a M/T the gears do not ever slip. nor the clutch.

the heat is so bad, and so fuel wasting, the newest cars have 9 gears in a A/T , and insane complexities.
The A./T eats power , at a stop light, in Drive. it just sit there burning HP. (pump uses power, and clutch drags)

Wow, ever since we wrote so much about the problems of my tranny my guess is that auto makers realized that there is a huge market for people that simply refuse to drive M/T cars and then they said, heck there is good money on making cars with A/T. I mean why build such a complex device prone to bigger problems if not well maintained vs a non fail version like the M/T? Jesus!

sure was,
the Cami plant made, Geo's and trackers and Vitara;'s side by side, for Canada 28 market, USA 03 and 33 market codes and even for Germany. and many others.
the plant sent cars all over the place, world. even Africa.

you have to look 4 places.

fire wall next to battery.
under hood, look up not down.
dash left.
and door jam.
at least 2 of the 4 will be there.

that maple leaf means its for CANAda smog laws...
