EVAP Cannister Woes!!! - lilbastard79 - 05-02-2014 Ok so I can't seem to find an EVAP cannister for my 1996 sidekick jlx sport 1.8l 4wd auto trans. I've looked high and low so what I need now is to know if there is some way to clean my existing cannister. The part is currently on backorder nationwide it seems. RE: EVAP Cannister Woes!!! - fixkick - 05-02-2014 Is the problem:' 1-Failed smog? EVAP monitors fail to complete or the smog man says the cap leak test fails? 3-DTCs set ? which are they? CEL glows running? 3 -or just visual inspection fails.? ??????? the canister id bet would be the last thing to fail, it's just box full of carbon, chunks. In fact the ECU can not detects bad charcoal, only a leaking CAN or plugged up. http://www.fixkick.com/sensors/EVAP/Evap-testing.html see all the red lines for way to leak.? i revised my page for full sport information, and full parts drawings. see the canister now? bolted near engine ? in the BAY. the canister is in the engine bay suz, pn# 18560-77E00 (77 is sport code for 1.8L) $160 bucks, and i get yours is good. https://monsterfactoryparts.com/parts/1995/Suzuki/Sidekick/index.cfm?siteid=217481 and on most others suz oem parts sales. all RE: EVAP Cannister Woes!!! - lilbastard79 - 05-02-2014 Well I guess I'll be busy this weekend BTW thanks for the link to monsterfactoryparts.com I'll add that to my list of parts resources. As always you seem to have all the answers. Thanks again wise one. RE: EVAP Cannister Woes!!! - fixkick - 05-02-2014 i cant help much i dont know the reasons to be here. smog test fails got DTCs or? just inspections finds parts missing..... the vent system is just that, it collects fumes and then burns them. it must be air tight. 1996 is a transiston year, they went from EVAP 1 to EVAP 2 levels mid year, on some 96s. they added VSV valves and the purge features. on the early system it only has one VSV. http://www.fixkick.com/buy-parts.html here are 5 online links there are more, if you use the trademotion google search to suzuki. lots more. what i do is find one close to my home to cut shipping costs. RE: EVAP Cannister Woes!!! - fixkick - 05-03-2014 i added the pressure sensor tests and volts/PSI graph here too. http://www.fixkick.com/sensors/EVAP/Evap-testing.html all new. what are your symptoms.... ???? RE: EVAP Cannister Woes!!! - lilbastard79 - 05-04-2014 Original DTC p0443 but purge valve passed checks on alldata so naturally I started giving the cannister the dirty looks. Turns out you were right I had some loose hose conections and I replaced the gas cap one from NAPA OE style. After that ran scan tool again no more p0443, but a new code was waiting for me P0340 the camshaft position sensor. Now I'm a little upset but glad I can get the sensor within 24hrs. Original symptoms were as follows hesitation and a couple of stalls at idle and of course a mil lamp. Throughout the coure of this my scan tool a P.O.S. i got from a pawn shop some years back crapped out on me. So I've been using my buddys cheap code scanner until I get this resolved. RE: EVAP Cannister Woes!!! - fixkick - 05-04-2014 ah yours is late 96 with purge update called EVAP 2 level system. it has more VSVs than the early car. nice work,, btw. 340 never lies. the ECU monitors the CPS, full time all the time. it creates spark and injection timing. 340 is that funky CAS sensor behind cam left.(drivers side) the cheap scan tool is ok on all early OBD2 cars, (very few DTCs on them) the CAS loves to fail, loves to leak oil (DIY fix works) and loves to heat soak, unlike the G16B , never ever fails. like TIMEX watch the CPS. luky for you the timing freeze jumper is still in the engine bay DLC (left strut tower?) unlike my silly v6, takes a suzuki scan tool to set the thing. RE: EVAP Cannister Woes!!! - lilbastard79 - 05-05-2014 Well I was angry yesterday now I'm better Just gotta wait on the sensor to arrive no big deal. Thanks for the insight your the best. RE: EVAP Cannister Woes!!! - fixkick - 05-05-2014 id be PO too with bad CAS. thing is expensive. and should last until the bearings inside die, and we have spare bearings too. someone hacked that too. bless them. and your SPORT , bless its little parts. |
