Tranny Replacement - Joe Tracker - 08-25-2023

In your experience, are the transmissions in trackers/vitara's with major collision damage suitable to replace a damaged transmission?

I am looking for a replacement transmission for my 1999 Chevy Tracker with a 1.6 liter engine and a five speed manual transmission with four wheel drive.  I have found a junked car with 52K miles, but it was t-boned in a collision and the passenger side caved in.

Thanks

Joe Tracker

RE: Tranny Replacement - fixkick - 09-15-2023

I had 2 , 5speed M/T , and full kit. (bearings)
and made one that is near perfect
suzuki does not sell them now so only wrecks have them . now.

maybe your old box only needs bearing kit.
or just a bad clutch
or the endless , failing silly as hell, clutch cable bad. (bad where no man can see it, deep inside)

post symptoms, first

new 27
and new clutch cable is first.

not the box first ever, 10hours labor is never first, + cost of core box and its rebuilding costs and labor.

and get simple cures. and simple tests to prove really what is bad? save huge bucket of cash.

is only 2nd gear hard to shift
or all gears grind or just reverse.
or is just that silly , shifter tip bad a $3 part bad.

part ID 27 here bad? as all are now? (ignored)

please post symptoms. first.

see this?
see 1 inch rule here, step 5

http://fixkick.com/tranny/clutch/clutch-on-kick.html

see id 19 there.
part 19 is lever nut, moves 1" full inch , person 2 pushing pedal fully
make sure clutch pedal parts not cracked is it LOVES to do.
use only correct cables from say rockauto.com
for 2door/4dr., and 8v and 16valve engines match up top body type for sure. and engine. both. and year. a 3 way match ok?
