Turns out it was the catalytic converter right next to the transfer case. So I replaced the cat and all is good. Glad that worked out. If you hear a noise check that your cat hasn't started to disintegrate. Thanks

(that made noise at odd times) noise is a very complex thing on any machine and worse on machines that move. saw one car do the same, and it was a harness clamp on the tranny box, that was undone a bit and the end of the clamp ONLY hit the body, in left turns and only under hard acceleration. took 3 guys on lift to find that, simulating driving and dragging brakes at the same time to simulate loads on the engine. noise can be , very hard to find.
