Speedometer just stopped working
#11
obd2 is usa spec
in Europe its EOBD.
that tool is, in HATAYASIM 19/9, HOLON, ISRAEL, 58237
you need to update your signature with country you are in, or better the cars market,
after all , obd2 is a USA ECU, only, and only works on USA cars, in 1996

i think (i forgot ) your car is E41 car. or E54 (Greek or Israel.) only market matters, where car ended up, zero.

first find your OBD scan port, ours is right knee
then take any obd2 scan tool (in usa all work in 1996 ,every tool made here) and check that the port works using the OBD2 protocol, std tools)
if yes,
then above meter works with ours, and EOBD. (E= European rules)
if the port works with standard tools the meter will work. (mostly)
there is no other why, there are 100s of ecu, world wide and suzuki does not publish compliance lists for them. (sadly)

test the port
then if works, buy meters.
or get a return promise, and lose on shipping. 2 ways.

here are all markets I know
http://www.fixkick.com/specs/the-market-list1.html

that heads up deal is super nice, very modern.

oops one problem
some scan tools left plugged in , drain the battery.
via pin 16. (on DLC)

if pin 16 is hot 12vdc all times, like on some cars.
the tool must have smart power down mode.
it detects key off, and goes to power saver mode inside the meter.

see if you pin 16 is 12v key off.

scantool.net makes tools that avoid this.
see others talking about this issue here.

https://www.scantool.net/forum/index.php?topic=6807.0

the go to sleep when serial data ends.
after a timeout.

what each tool maker does, can different.
in some cases, the meter off switch needs to be pushed, id ask them,.... this question.

Somebody might have followed this thread very closely.
Actually, I had found one head for the Sport on Ebay but it was not shipped to Cambodia. While I was negotiating with the seller to ship it to Cambodia by email, one day later it was already sold!!!!

the Suzuki sport is a very rare car. J18 cars. (rare on the road, might be lots in bone yards, rusted out )
the G16 cars (non-sport)heads don't fit, so.. more rare.
try Canada, ebay?
most sellers, will not ship outside country, for 1 reasons, filling out all those customs documents.(pain 1)
and number 2 , tracking and insurance, not offered by ship carrier, so item gets lost and seller gets nothing for all that work.

pit falls:
make sure seller shows the Speedo head, sticker on the bottom for the part number. (100's world wide, don't fit)
and the back side view to see connector count (it's 3) and pin count, stated above already.
and a guaranty of (NO DOA) on arrival. (hint: no shortage of bad heads)

car-part.com
use name speedo, not instrument, and now it shows 1.8L for MPH or KPH (kph will be canada parts)
http://www.car-part.com/
this link is a N.American, auto wreckers, network (dismantlers)
the hard part if finding a good head, then a seller then ship outside usa,

good cluck on your search.!

PS: in Canada, many of these cars or now decertified, (no license tags issues) due to body rust out and safety inspection failed.
Many were sold there.
where i live, south deep USA, there are no sidekicks here (of any kind < 1999year), we see 1 every 6 months. super rare.
My wife yells, gee there is a Geo Cracker, (her name) , i say, wow, it still runs....

Suzuki redesigned, the Sidekick(its vatara in truth) and built a new wide frame, for furture, v6 engines, to fit.
this car became the grand Vitara later.

it was a marketing failure. low sales. (USA)

PS#2
wiki shows
Vietnam Suzuki corporation starts production of motorcycles and automobiles in the Bien Hoa industrial zone.

see sales figures, here, the reasons Suzuki left our market is clear..
dismal sales and USA regulations (DOT, EPA etc), are too costly
this is why parts can be hard to find, (low new car sales here, ) this curve is not SUV only, as is end curve. its all cars sold here by SUZUKI.

by comparison:
Suzuki sold
250,000 Wagon R miniwagons, in 1997, (not one here) but does very well worldwide.
IIRC< the J18 Sports sold were in the 10,000 range. (dismal/ pathetic,) this is why used parts are so very hard to find. this is my guess on sales, but some reports (hard to get) show way less..!!!
what's worse the X-90s...
The total number of X-90s imported to the U.S. numbered just 7,205 (all years)
i mention all this, so when buy car? , or looking for used parts ?(discontinued by suz) consider sales numbers, and rarity. first.
reason is, down time can be a real bad deal. (for sure body parts, which this is, and no aftermarket parts sold....)

i made this curve for SUV (includes, sidekick G16s, J18 sport and Samurai) the J18 is tiny of total, the 4door sidekick G16 out sold all others SUZ models)
your car, sold a a tiny fraction of this data.

one other way is to ask for parts on craigs list.
world wide.
i all this begging for parts.
like this.
WTB , reward for Suzuki Sport parts, 1996 to 1996, USA,

the problem is , it was only sold in USA. making it 10x more rare. it is no VITARA. !
i searched the Suzuki parts list. it only fits USA SPORTS. (or N.American only)

or search craigslist , using all of craigs, method
for
"Parting out, Suzuki SPORT."
