It depends also on how much you want/can spend. Like fixkick said, finding local shop is a good option.

I'm new member been having real loss of power on a 1997 sidekick with 110K miles, just replaced the cat converter and ordered Ox sensors fore and aft
what do you suggest, Yes I thought the exchange engines from Japan was an option but I've been told there not available any more I'm in Ogden UT (03-14-2014, 09:27 PM)fixkick Wrote: find a local mech.

LIZARDJUMPER, I was also experiencing loss of power with my engine and I definitely did not need to swap an engine into my car. All I needed was to do a tune up and a few tests to find out what the cause of the issue was.
If I were you my first test would be a "compression test", based on the results then I would move onto other tests and inspection points. See below: http://www.fixkick.com/compressiontest.html

is this a 16v engine? did you clean the MAF YET, from 12 inches distant with maf cleaner or carb cleaner. ?
the top power lost causes are compression lost. maf dirty tuneup? fuel filter clogged that will kill power fast. and is in the 60k list egr valve stuck open,, stalls all the time. Btw 2, if the compression NOT 150 to 170PSI but a tad low , add oil to the cylinder,a teaspoon only (no more), if compression rises rings are shot, if not its just a valve job. a rebuilt head is like $400 a whole engine can be 4 times that. my 16v did 185psi warm.
