Hello... new to the Forum, and Trackers, and have put a lot of work into my 01/89, to get it ready to smog (Ca Sad)
My problem is I can't figure out how to reset the 'check engine' light. It flashes code 12 (no other codes)... but can't have it flashing that, while running, to pass smog. thx in advance Smile jim

ouch calif smog on such an old car.... hard.
you have to do the im240 rolling load test at 2 speeds. 15 and 25mph.

the fuse box has the jump fuse called diag. remove it.
or see here for the 4 pin plug if fitted. http://www.fixkick.com/CEL/DLC/DiagJump.html

yes, they would have a fit with that flashing, most will go, omg what is that?

GOOD luck passing for SURE!

get the pre inspection so CaL , epa cant see you fail. (if the exhuast smells rich it will)
here is a 95 passing it has tighter pass fail limits. (but was a close shave on HC) my guess is his cat was near dead. but not dead.

yeah... no Diag fuse far as i can tell and I seem to have a 3-pin DLC connector... but as I say... already flashes code 12... I just have to re-set the light so it doesn't flash codes.

the federal car does have the Nag switch (USA only) under dash. but never the calif car.
the cover is in link 1 above. first photo.
the nag is fully covered on the nag page.
http://www.fixkick.com/CEL/cel-index.html

no the battery pull ed or same for dome fuse pulled, only resets stored, DTC errors , you dont have any stored codes so does nothing.
the dome fuse kills power to the ECU memory bank, NVRAM.

the federal nag is useless. it only is to remind folks the CAT needs checking (nag). (due to leaded fuel usage long ago) its totally useless and i defeat all i see.
call it the cat nag...

you must have a calif car.
seen here, in fed cars, missing on cal cars.

yes... it's a very early Ca car... flashing code 12. I still can't figure out how to reset engine light flashing codes, so that it stays off while running

is this a sidekick or a tracker?
the first 89s were made in japan, not cami,
so have some unique issues., nothing big

if the fuse slot is not there for then the 4 pin, plug near battery is.
or that wire is shorted to ground

see the pin 15 blue-yell wire, that is the wire that is shorted to ground , for sure;.
http://www.fixkick.com/INJECTORS/89/89-90schem1.jpg

we will stop the 12s from flashing, i promise, its just one wire.

see this red body car

see the 4 pins, when new the DLC has a rubber cap, pop it off and behold the DLC.

the tracker 89 has no diag fuse. so is your car a tracker?
