OBD2 scanner issues
#1
Trackick owners, I have a nice puzzle for you. My cousin has the obd2 scanner seen in the link below:

http://www.amazon.com/Launch-Tech-301050...ds=crp+123

He lives and works in Ecuador and recently bought this scanner so he can make a living from reading codes from people who has the check engine light on and hopefully help them diagnose where the issue may be, so if we can somehow help him, it would be huge.

The problem is that although the scanner is working on cars such as Chevrolet Aveo, Mazda 6, etc... It is giving him an error on other cars that also have OBD2 plugs under the dash. This is not happening only with one car but with three cars so far: Chevrolet Vitara 1.6 2 door, Mazda Pickup BT-50 and Chevrolet 2300 Dmax pickup.

The Vitara he is trying to scan is assembled in Ecuador, he is not 100% what year it was but definitely newer than year 2000 and it had the OBD2 plug under the dash.

Where do you think the problem may be? does he not have a scanner compatible with these cars? I thought all OBD2 were universally the same?

some cars have a 16PIN obd2 plug, but is not oBD2, but is in fact obd1.
i heard that scanner above does do lots of cars.
there is no one scanner that does them all.
the innova 3160 does lots of old OBD1 cars
but the vitara above must be oBD1 and suzuki never published how to use it.
in each case look at the pins populated, in most cases, oops this is not OBD2.
there is also OBD1.5 (half works , and not)

the connector pin count nor shape proves anything.
the hood sticker if they mention OBD2 , it's a go. OBD2 is a USA standard, not world.
and there are JOBD and EOBD. that use this connector, some work. some don't.

for each car not OBD2 true , you must find out is there a scan tool for this car. (none for suzuki, besides Rhinoman's that is why he went to such trouble to do that........)

OBD2 costs more and if the country don't care, then the maker uses the lowest coast EFI , to keep car affordable....
In Ecuador, don't they have cars from all over the world?, and all over S. America, and even mix of USA cars... (check the hood and fire wall stickers. it will be clear that) And VIN if it has vin.
No Ecuador EPA or DOT, etc , to dictate this i think.?
Its like in Canada 1989. 3 cars, usa, canada or gray market,
Gray market is when anyone an import anything and DID.
