I just took on the timing belt cover on my 1995 tracker 1.6 8 valve engine to install a new timing belt and see the spring to the tensioner pulley is missing. (I didn't do it the last time) I can't find a place to order one. I'm an old carpenter but have studied this site extensively and if I've got it correct that spring is just used to set the tension and then the pulley is locked in place. If I'm correct, can I put the correct tension on the belt using a scale instead of a spring and then lock it in place? If this will work, how much tension should it be??
Thank you so much for the help,
Wayne
