Huge white cloud from exhaust today
#1
Just today my sidekick blew a huge white/light grey smoke cloud out of the exhaust pipe?.

No overheating, engine oil not milky, coolant not contaminated (visual test only) and at top level, tranny fluid not milky either, coolant reserve tank at max, shifting properly, running smooth (although I turned around a went home)

Valve stems seals? It was only then, afterwards slight/light smoke not all the time, like sometimes in the past. It would smell not like burning oil though?

Right now I'm running lots of tests for code 51 and tranny late shifting?
Could this affect?

What in the world could this be?

Thanks!!

I noticed I had some white smoke in the morning one day after a hard rain. Did you have any rain between starts?

smoke from tip of exhaust or the front of car, front is , that pesky dizzy o-rings bad, x2,, it leaks done the rear of engine to the bell , then to left of bell housing to exhuast header.
and front of car smokes, or under drivers door,,,,,,,,

gray smoke, like unburned fuel, smells like it. (
white smoke is oil, and take seemingly for ever to clear, and smells like burned oil
water is normal cold , steam, gasoline burns , and it makes lots of steam naturally but when hot , can be seen only cold engine.
if the steam that goes away fast, like moms tea pot. very fast,,,, set that>? and smells sweet that is Glycol burning, antifreeze.
all are unique.
if not glycol its ok. all old cars burn oil, at first start. or going down any hell hot, foot of gas, the intakes valve stems suck oil from top of head. and burns it.

@Fixkick: Yes no glycol from what I saw. Dizzy neither, as I replaced/repaired that already Maybe some crap/oil moved around because of air blow test?

See pic from EGR test thread

@Cosmic-splatter: No rain or hard rain between starts. I did rain on saturday but very light, no puddles. Wife used later that day with no huge smoke clouds.

Update: Wife used the car this morning and all normal again. As I stated before, all fluids are OK and at top level, no overheating. Maybe my stem seals need replacement?

Thanks and have a great week!

the stem seals are real hard to replace head in car. cam out, and use compressed air i spark hole with crank locked is possible. with the tool... block all head drains or the keepers will land in the pan.
if it dont smoke first 3 seconds of start. its not seals.
im sure you just got some oil on the exh. this is very normal,
i bet this is all gone now.

stall test passes.
EGRt sure does. you proved it 100%
EGR main pass leak down test on diaphram?
once here, does pulling the EGR VSV connector (elect) allow the main valve to open , in neutral with throttle raised by hand?
it will not open fully, just some. only go ing up hills opens the main valve 100%
at this point we car closer to doing the live test. if the above fails we must test the ported vacuum , the VSS and the Mod valve.
step by step, we work back to ECU , single wire, that is the initiator.

we can test the whole thing end to end.
each part, the only fuzzy part, is flow, in the 4 injectors.(egr nozzles ,or just drillings actually)
thanks for your great photos.. im working on them tonight
