Gear shifting - Manual Transmission

Hi Everyone,

It's been over a year since I have this tracker now but I still learn to drive it. Smile

Just today I was reading in the owners manual about the speeds the gears should be changed for best fuel economy

Here it is:
Acceleration
1 to 2 at 15 Mph
2 to 3 at 25
3 to 4 at 40
4 to 5 at 45

Cruise
2 to 3 at 20-26 "range"
3 to 4 at 30-35
4 to 5 at 39-45

I tried this today and from 1 to 2 to get to 15mph I have to rave the engine to 4000 ????. it gets a bit lower as you go up but it just feels like driving aggressive and not fuel friendly. It feels tho better shifting the gears.

I usually change my gears in 2500-3000 range what is lower in speeds.

also they say if you drive lower than 20mph to go in 1st.

I can only go in 1st if completely stopped or at most 5-6mph , more than that I get bad noses and actually it doesn't even let me.
I understand this is bad synchronizers but what is this what is in owners manual? Are they serious raging the engine in 4000s before shifting.

Just want to know what other people do this? at what rpm/ mph the shifting is happening for you?

the oper guide numbers are useless, cars drive in many different modes, hills , altitudes, etc.
the car gets max MPG in 5 gear, at about 40-45 mph, flat ground , at sea level. use a real MPG gauge to see that, live. I have one.

driving a stick , takes practice.
the first rules are dont lug engine and not to over REV it.
to get max, MPG , you shift into the next gear as soon as possible. (not lugging it in next gear) practice teaches this best.
but that rule cancels if going up hill ,, takes lots of fuel and power to go up a hill and all that matters is making it up said hill and not get rear ended by some joker behind you, and MPG the car does 28mpg, and fuel is $2 what is the worry there,?

down shifting to 1st puts hug stresses on the 1st gear syncrho ring. and takes a 100% perfect clutch (no drag)

2 rules. shift up early if you can? (practice ) and look at the torque curves, see that max torque, RPM that lets you make it up hills faster.
94HP at 3000 RPM, shift at 3000 for hills. if on flat ground can be done sooner, practice it. learn what your can needs and wants.

and keep up with traffic, (safety always wins all logic of driving)

those number help 3 persons (opr guide)
1 driving NINJ motor cycle that shifts at 10,000 rpm , (why is my suz engine so slow ,?)
2: and the guy with a old Diesel, Mercedes, that shifts at 1000 rpm. (why so fast (RPM)?
3: and the guy with his corvette that shifts 1500, (or my chev, pickup with large V8 (tons of torque at low rpm)

see, the number help them adjust. other wise, they are useless.
This G16 engine has a unique torque curve, like here.
the 5speed in 5th gear ,stock tires 16v goes 59mph, at 3000 rpm (0.80 OD)
4th gear (ratio 1:1 ) rpm is 3000 rpm @ 47mph ( 59 x .80 less)

not a great graph, its speed focused, not HP/Torque. (the 31" tires, RPM will be 10% slower RPM at engine)
