Electric Door Lock
#1
I'm new here and did a search and am not sure if this topic has been discussed. The electric door lock actuator/mechanism on both driver and passenger side of my 1997 Sidekick Sport are both shot. Need new or good used ones. Or I am wondering if I can just replace the whole thing with manual mechanisms which would be cheaper. I know I can possibly order new electric ones but the cost is very high. Any thoughts. I have the 4-door 1.8L version.

the electric locks are still manual, the key and knobs still work. on electric options. is that jammed too>?
4door or 2, ?
97 sport with J18 engine..wide frame car.
ok, this is the wide frame car, and is rare, and can make parts finding harder. lots harder. but this part is shared.
but the same lock (4 door) is used on some of the non sport, sidekick and i think tracker,... see end of page.
for one, nobody sells an after market down grades, so that leaves , wreckers parts or new. (car-parts.com)with hypen(dash)

ill now look up the car in the Suzuki parts lists.
mine did same, the lock got slow, and there was no fix, so $100 lock fixed it.
the 2 door did have manual locks, but not 4.
the 4 door are all electric, so no hope there.

if both are slow, id suspect low voltage to the doors. first. got 12vdc with lock button pushed , not 8v or less than say 11v?

ok the non sport locks to not fit.
the sport locks come in left and right
82201-58B00
82202-58B00 (left) the 58 code means sport sized. or luxury)

suzuki wants $424 each. (they got to pay for bankruptcy ?)

and last I look up all cars its fits at suzuki , ok it firts many cars sidekicks and tracker here . all 4 door.
but there are JX 4doors and JLX and only the JLX G16 cars fit. the former use 56B00 locks (wrong) an latter 58B00 locks. (the later is a bingo. 1989 to 1995 only state side)
then in 1996 (narrow frame G16) THEY Dropped the 58B00 lock , except on J18 sport wide frames cars.)

so car-parts.com
or ebay used.

58B locks. only.

check voltage
lube it?

Thanks for the info. I'll work on some of those suggestions. The locks unlock then fall down on their own and after taking the right side off to inspect it I found a round spring in the mechanism that was not in place and couldn't assess where it came from. Assume the mechanism is worn out.

we have the drawing, but not of the guts of lock.
just the whole door and pieces....
ok add a spring pulling up, a weak spring.
to balance it.

since it all works, but just falls down. balance it..... easy fix... (get a box of generic springs in the auto store, in the help section)

there are no springs in the parts drawings
so if the lock knob drops
id put in some friction materal on the rod.
find some heavy felt and punch a hole in it with a nail.
the feed that over the rod and find a spot in the door to secure the felt.
this adds friction to the rod and saves you $900 in parts.
find a way to get the rod to have friction,.... in some way....
one other way, is 2 strips of wood, in a sandwich arrangement
then 2 screws holding that closed, adjustable friction for ever.
then secure the wood to door some way (tie-wraps ring my bells)
turn screw until the lock rod feels perfect.
omg auto locking doors must stink, a serious bummer that.
