ECM Question
#1
I have a 1.6L 16V out of a 1992 Suzuki Sidekick that I am going to put in my Samurai. I need a ECM for it. Looks like the only non California ECM with the early EGR and MT is the 33920-58B30 which appears to be a lot harder to find used than newer models. What do I need to do to be able to run a newer ECM? EGR2, intake, IAT?

Thanks

custom harness. (whos)
stock?
scratch built?
yes the best ECU is 1992. (simple EGR, simple EVAP 1)

on road ,. off or both>?
smog tests? in your location? if yes, all these cars get the sniff test, and is not easy to pass. not set up right.

so the 16v needs a 16v MPI ecu, in usa that started in 1992,

m/t or A/t?

the speedo ?, you will need a VSS switch or the ecu will not be happy, with it dead. (it's a key sensor) (all are but EGR and EVAP)

you need a new ecu , harness, and all original sensors, 92, the evap in what i call, (open vsv and pray it works) 1997 , its a tuff nut.
the EGR, in 1992, does not use the thermoprobe (EGRT), but uses, rpm and MAF readings to see if the EGR works ok, (a tricky test)
The thermoprobe test is simple and easy to fool with a 10,000 resistor, so at first glance we go huh? but its better ! easy to work and fix. (clean em' they all work)

the fuel pump must pass the 55PSI (60) shunt test. so the FPR can have full dynamic range at all throttle and altitudes and engine loads.

one guy told me all that is bunk, he's right!, for him and his 100% stump pulling sidekick, (black smoke all day, not a care....) (even in backup mode it works)

Samurai will be on and off road.

I have the wiring from the donor. Engine came from a 92 MT 4 door Suzuki Sidekick. No need to smog.

I have completely rebuilt it. Also taken all the intake pieces apart and cleaned inside and out. ( FYI: There are only 3 orings left in the nation for the Fast Idle Air Valve).

I will be doing the modification of the harness.

I took the sidekick speedo apart and got the piece to add to my speedo.

I will not be installing motor till next winter so have time to get pieces together. So I don't mind trying to get the newer egr, intake, etc. as I find cars at the local pull and save which is a cheap source for parts.

There are two 97 Sidekicks there now but I assume are different egr, intake, etc. needed to run computer from a 95 ecm on my engine?

I have the 92 FSM, Warbirds harness swap instructions, and diagrams from fixkick. Ad could get a FSM for a newer vehicle if I were to go that route with parts.

I have plenty of time so willing to do more physical work than spend more money. The 92 ECM are pricey used.

But do not want to install the pieces to run a 96 or newer engine although those pieces are at the pull and save now.

Thanks

fast idle air valve?, we can get any o-rings, once sized. and every upgraded for 50cents to viton.
where is this o-ring? exactly. 16v has no such thing (8v dash pot) the 16v has a thermal IAC, but has no orings,
the iSC has no o-rings, im confused !

and watch out some sources say its not avail but is in the main warehouses, 3 here. (too lazy to order one ring some are so, wax a tail)
i have the full parts lists. so we can look them up, and see if really rare. (most are not) in fact some fit , suzuki motor cycles.

ECU:
dont forget to look for Sidekicks and Trackers ECU, to see them all. in all cases. (the GM fiche calls out, suzuki p/n for sure)

if running a 92 harness, a 92 ECU is in order. (96 up are huge changes for USA OBD2)
all ecu's are pricey, and for sure used, and working and NO DOA promise, more, but seen pigs in pokes for $25-50 and good ones $100 and cardone prime are $400
but if you put a watch on them using ebay, it emails the second one , gets listed.

really if wanting an ECU cheap , then you need a matching harness and matching sensors. (egr is only thing tricky and EGR map)

as these cars get older, the 92-95 do get rear, (and the big gap after the consumers magazine debacle, sales fell like a rock here, huge)

discounted here cardone (see the cardone catalog, at there home page)

58b30 is fed 92 16v.
tons of price gouging out there.
the only way to get the ECU, is to use ebay, (email me watch)
or beg on craigs list, WTB?
or use car-parts.com (wreckers net, but they are all crooks, right,? all price gouge for pigs in pokes, they are.. ) lets look now.
http://car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi?u...userPage=2

lowest ?
$125, but you can call and dicker.

ebay
use completed listing to see what it really sells for,, nothing better . IMO.

now

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUZUKI-SIDEKICK-...9d&vxp=mtr

completed's

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=tra...U&_sacat=0

keep in mind there are 100s of possible failures inside, the ECU, (100,o00 transistors can fail) and all fail for bad caps , 89-95.
finding good ones, takes huge luck. and every day from now on, 10x that, (23 years is a long time!)
In the end, only the top rebuilders will sell good once (and expensive testing)
Cardone rules this roost, they test them 100%^

me, i but 2 of them and hope for the best, used, no warranty, but that is me, and i change caps day 1.

what o-ring
my interest is piqued.

http://www.fixkick.com/fresh-air/Slide_S...ge_39.html

did you mean gasket?

there is injector o-rings' oh boy what a pain, and cushion ring.
then FPREG (FPR) o-ring

and rail copper washer (rings) from H3LL.
dizzy rings.
rear rocker rail ring,

and others,

Ok I will just hold out for a 92 ecm.

As for the oring. Suzuki calls it an oring but it is not round. It is #5 if I managed to insert the photo.

Thanks,

Jim

the iac, base
your lucky the IAC came off and the screws didnt snap,
they are hard do to.
and that is vary custom gasket. silicon and orange coded. i think.
many are re-usable they are so long lasting, from that material.

Suzuki dont list selling any IAC itself, but does whole TB.with IAC.
the gasket is 18138-58b00

$8.84

I made sure I could order one before taking it apart. Had a hard time getting my oring off and ended up tearing it. Was really stuck in there. Should probable never have to take it apart. I just wanted everything as clean as possible.
