Previous owner put in a newer transfer case. 16 spline instead of 26 spline. Speedo reads 10mph too high but whatever. lol. I have no idea how to diagnose the cruise control. I checked all the usual things (fuses connections etc) so I have no idea where to even begin. Everything looks like its there as the previous owner was older and disnt tinker with it just drove it. Thanx ok the rare car with cruise, option
sure fuses are first.
it has 2 major parts the cruise module in the dash not missing, 1st.
then the motor near TB and cable to run the TB throttle valve called the cruise TV cable.
yes , the cruise model pins must be reading correctly
using a voltmeter.
the MPH off there is not a problem at all.
the brake switch for cruise, not bad.
the transmission i guess is the 4speed autmatic with OD. I guess due to 4doors, needs HD tranny due to more weight of car and loads.
PRNDL switch must show in Drive . or cruise is canceled.
no sure what year this is but the progressives are the same.(cruise box logic>)
IG coil fues not blown if is blow spark ends so is not blown
Stop light fuse not blown,, (rear of car see them work) then not blown.
Module cruise not missing,
VSS clicks, NO DTC errors for VSS1 or VSS2 dead, one inside speedo cluster and one on tranny trail shaft or transfer case rear, DTC errors for either , if they fail. (flashing DTC codes ECU)
vss is the veh, speed clicker. clicks per mile. (tells it you e are moving now and not parked.
as you can see both stop switches must be good , one tap brake pedal and cruise ends. now.
CRUISE dash switch not missing or dead.
steering stock lever switches x3 cruise not bad. or missing or unplugged from harness.
Not in Neutral nor park but in drive, mode. PRNLD.
the ECU has 2 wire there for communications, tells the ECU it has throttle (TH) controls now. and ODC , overdrive mode is cancel, means can not be in OD mode. tranny.
VSS
seems simple but is not,

pin 5 works off current and 3 resistors in he lever, switches.
the 3 modes.
the brake switches must be seen (eyes on), if some one hacked it and put in none cruise 2 pin switch and not 4 pin.
pedal up switch sends power to the cruise box
the other one if you tap the brakes lightly cruise ends. fast,
most the books seen are missing cruise option pages. not sure why that is so.
above schematic i think is 1996. (e172 is my clue) so may be different but the functions on pins are the same. all of that.

The car is pretty well "preserved" It was taken care of and not abused or hacked..so Im confident everything is there.. Thanx again

Thanx again I am not sure, this option is super rare. the box may be in the motor box under hood.
all manuals I have treat it as and option, and has books on it never seen by me, 1996 sport yes, yours not see, I will keep locking in my old PDFs here.
as you know cruise loves to fail, this is normal, for safety if any inputs are wrong it will go off lined
the brake switch is 2 switches here, 3 wire or 4, not 2.
the DO NOT trust 1 switch for Cruise, see why, imagine throttle out of control (it) while you are braking,l never good that.
it has no diagnostic modes like ABS, or ECU or RWAL , or TCM.
zero diag.
only volt meter pin by pin finds the wrong input if is.
then outputs last to the motor TV drive,.
I will look in my PDF cache here, for cruise drawings 92.-95 is the range.
even the old steering column switches are prime to fail here, this old, any car really.
what could be more difficult a device that can only be tested moving, no fun in that and huge dangers.
it monitors the VSS and if speed is too low or zero it can not engage, so is not easy to test if dead. ever.
some inputs yes, outputs no.
more later...

It all seems a bit to much for me... like wheres the VSS? How do you test it, etc etc... Might be a bit far beyond me.

well it is too much, cruise is complex and testing while driving it is crazy dangerous.
the way it works is simple but not how it was deployed, (no diagnostics modes at All) <<< REAL BAD THIS IS TO ANY TECH,
i have portable data loggers (voltmeters ) that allow me to test on the road any test point. (and same for noise (electronic stethoscope)
the VSS on this car there are 2,
1 in the transmission tail shaft RPM speed sensor that is used by the TCM (tranny 4speed brain shifter)
2; and one in side the speedo cluster, seen on my huge cluster page. speed head VSS1
https://fixkick.com/sensors/speedo/unsaf...ml#Defeats
if the car is not moving or too slow or too fast , CRUISING IS DISABLED. (both are unsafe acts so are dis ALLOWED)
the test for these sensors is on jack stands, (safe) and driving the car, in gear,
but YOUR VSS is not dead, either,
because the OD lamp on the 4speed will go nuts telling you it is failing, VSS2 (tranny)
and VSS1 dead will fail for ECU DTC error 24, VSS1 is dead. (speedo cable snapped is why)
This is not easy , nothing is more hard really, and very very rare documents, most manuals I have (scads) have no CRUISE PAGE AT ALL.
working on any undocumented device like this is not easy.
first would be the brake switch it must have the dual switch.
seen many cars the owners had this fail and replaced it with the wrong switch not the cruise version
just only look under dash is first. it is there or not there, 2pins/wires wrong 3 or 4 pins/wires correct.
look for missing parts wires and plugs to all parts of this cruise option.
the inputs to cruise are first, (after all any logic or computer is the same rules) input must be correct. or GIGO happens, garbage in , nets you garbage out.
I gave up finding books on cruise, only one 96/98 version I have, and not same here i think.
is the cruise motor box next to the TB , throttle body present and its cabl motor drive to the TV throttle valve present.

the ECU and the cruise box, talk back and forth.
the ECU seeing VSS1 (cable vss) 10mph too high and the TCM shows VSS2 in the 4 speed tranny is 10mph off, this can be a problem.
this is not documented to this level in ANY suzuki books.
but the transmissins shifts by VSS2, if VSS2 fails TCM switches to more crude, VSS1.(mag clicker reed switch tech)
the trans may shift more roughly or too soon
but what will cruise do? nobody know this , the guy who designed it is now retired in JAPAN. (lol)
having VSS1 and VSS2 not the same is not documented, (TCM shift by VSS2 normally)
the TCM talks to the ECU and the ECU talks to CRUISE brain. what happens here at this level is anyones guess.
the ECU even may tell the cruise to drop off line when engine hits 90% load. (on small engine this can happen al the time on hills) making cruise near worthless.
those are my ideas on cruise, very very rare option;.
the cruise control box is in way up high in the dash behind the cluster. just to the left of 4speed AT box TCM brain box.
the cruise switch main in in the dash, front. to the right of rear washer wiper switch. there.
the , brake switch is this part.
brake switch p/n suzuki #
cruise version 37740-60A20 (D01 is non-cruise version, cruise has 2 switches and IS NOT OPTIONAL
missing these ( suzuki does not sell the A20 SWITCH NOW. IT'S GONE. (DUAL SWITCH FOR CRUISE)

THOSE 3 THINGS IN THE CAB (AND CORRECT DUAL BRAKE SWITCH./
AND UNDER HOOD, THE MOTOR DRIVE AND 1 CABLE FROM IT TO TB , THROTTLE VALVE.
