AT OD flashing at idle

can do flash codes.
if you can find the blu/org wire, so might your's.

The TCM is smart , it's so smart it can see errors that the driver can not feel.!
think of early warnings.... I CAN DO THAT ON ALL CARS MADE.
and is a GOOD thing.
no matter what it is , it will get WORSE.

it might be just a dirty VSS,
ever clean one?

Dear fixkick again!
Have you got my email with the tags (under the driver's dash)?
I cannot find that connector. The yellow one in the middle has a cover and a fuse inside.
Where is the VSS? I have never seen that.

the is TCM, but outside usa can be IMMO (immobilizer option) I vote TCM but you never posted that sticker number?
nice photo too.
not only that, i see the OBD2 16pin connector top right. you cant find that? it yells OBD2, scan me..!!!!!
they yellow connectors are air bags, do not mess with those, or get hurt,, read the manual on air bags yet, that be FIRST !!!
photo was 56 inches wide , so shrunk it to web size 1020pixles.
now seen in gallery.

Dear Fixkick,

I am sending you the pictures under the dash of driver’s side.

The first one shows both ECM (why are they double?) and PCM (two couplers-one big and one small) couplers are removed, right?

Best,

why not scan this car.?
all scan tools made scan this car.
tell your mech, pretend car is a 2015 Suzuki pretend its any 2015 car, scan it.
and then scan it like you do all new cars. and BINGO.

it will scan, all do. (its a usa car, end to end , )
Im not authority on j18 cars, they are a super rare car. as are facts on them for options, but have some books on it.

also, some options can installed by dealers , by owners request, making it hard to track.

that is a TCM. until you post that p'n on this side, bingo.. did i not already post the p/n for you, yes.

the drawing post 3, is an exploded view (means parts are stood off mounts, expanded, but only some... in and odd suzuki way. some are expanded and others not.

why not scan the car, why not.? you can NOT Fix modern cars lacking a scan tool. unless 1 week of long hard labor, with a dmm meter is fun.
why not?
the TCM is unhappy, we know that as fact.
and that means it SAW illegal inputs. fact 2.
and means it stored the error in memory fact3.
and you have yet to scan it to discover fact 3.
yet.
why the delay?

in the USA every shop in the country 100,000 has a tool to do this. (it's a generic tool, works on all cars here, for ECU/PCM/TCM)
every store here sells it. for $10 to $300 (but the $10 tool works in this case)
The TCM can talk to the ECU and reverse.
in most cases the ECU reports TCM errors, (96 +) (your car is first ever to do so...) J18 cars.

tell me why you can not scan this car
all OBD2 scan tools made on earth scan this car.
every one.
they are MILLIONS of people with tool in hand using it. (its like the 10,12,14mm wrench, INDISPENSABLE) a mandatory tool.
a new sensor or TCm is like 10 to 40 times the cost of this tool.
my joke is why work blind, why?

tcm sticker
38880-77e21

77 code means J18 car. first cars with j18

in 1997 they deleted this part

Dear Fixkick,
Thanks for the input.
Yes, I am still looking for the automotive repair shops that have the tool that can read the Sidekicks. Most automotive repair shops here have laptops with the program.

I ask them to plug in and it shows only Toyota cars. This country uses almost only Toyota cars.

This Sidekick was imported from the US into this country second-hand in 2005. This country use mostly second-hand imported cars from the US!

In post # 3, the 35 is TCM (it is on the right, not the left?). So in my picture it is under the OBD2 with two couplers you have marked it, right? Or it is on the left next to ECM?

I will make another photo of the P/N.

its is not a sidekick tool.. not at all.!
the tool works on every car in the USA, 1996 and newer, its just called OBD2 scan too. even the TOYOTA.
other tools, might work too. JOBD (japan cars, in japan)
EOBD , European.
both boxes have stickers, and both have a Suzuki partnumber. and clearly tells me what it is...
the left box is always the ECU,
the one next to it is TCM.
the photo is clearly marked. no?

in the photo I marked box 2 ;why is it unplugged;, its the TCM
38880-77e21

the prefix , means TCM 38880,
the Suffix , means J18 car, version (not G16)
why even look, at boxes. it's of no use at all, unless it was found unplugged, as it clearly is in the above photo.
I guess you have been unplugging lots of things?

all cars made by (SUZ), if the 0D flashes, you must scan it.
it's a fact.
you nor any person on earth can not guess, why the TCM is upset, ever.
you must ask it, this is called SCANNING IT.
Not only that, the problem can be intermittent. and that takes a scan tool to find, you can't guess it.
are you going to replace the transmission every time the OD flashes? no.

no need to photo the tag.
just type the number here. (flash light in hand 1minute job.)

In Europe that have and IMMO option next to ECU, but yours will not have that...."security immobilizer"

never buy a USA car , and not at the same time buy a OBD2 scan tool ! if this is so common, how do you fix USA cars there? lacking a basic tool.??????

it's only a USD $10 tool, (laptop. and an ELM327 works here, done so personally, uses a USB cable. )
the tool is universal, works on all 1996 cars. (USA market) suzuki, toyota , Nissan, Ford, Chevy and all others...)
A 1996 USA toyota uses the same tool..... SAME.

why let $10 stand in the way of easy painless diagnosis.?

https://www.google.com/webhp?gws_rd=ssl#...w.ebay.com

pick on, buy one scan the car.
cheers and happy holidays.

a good source of information on this car is here
http://www.eautorepair.net/Marketing/Default.asp

i looked on alldata.com for you, and the the information on this J18 car , is pathetic. (as is Chiltons, on J18s)

mitchells is one of the best. (id have to pay $17 to read up your car facts)

Only sports and esteems use J18.

Thanks again.
Scan? I know but wait a little bit. I am now in the process to purchase one scan tool myself. It will take time for sure.

Come back to ECU/PCM and TCM issue!
What's about the one with two couplers on the right knee directly under your mark OBD2? I already used the flash light and I do not see any sticker on it both side. And what's about the white connector on the right? what are they, then?

The reason I disconected the couplers just for taking photos only!

Happy holiday!

the factory boxes are all marked, (takes looking on both sides, all sides, 6 sides.. possible.)
the drawing i sent is real. it matches your car. (above dash photo is correct.!)
it shows cruise or ABS. id 13 or 55?
the boxes are all marked.
every one,. the part number is the proof of what the box, does, post your stickers and i can look them all up.
I have a full SPORT parts catalog. all 3000 + parts

I revised, my 1.8 page. just for you.

keep in mind
when a TCM sees errors.
and you can not feel the transmission act oddly
you can expect to see it fail soon.
The TCM can see things you cant. and feel things you can't
in fact it has PERFORMANCE tables in it.
and if the transmission slips, for any reasons (outside of normal TC slip) the TCM will in fact warn you, its a HEAD up, we have trouble coming.
really that is a blessing;
would you drive cross country knowing the TCM is unhappy before the trip, if yes, why>?
there are
BLack
then
white
and shades of gray! and many shades.. .there are, in an analog world.

Gray loves to turn to black, for 1 reasons, ENTROPY.
the laws of the universe,.. all things have a beginning and end.

if it was my car id have fedex deliver it faster..
if is rely on 1 car.
id not want to get stranded, or wife same.... not me...

in truth i consider it part of the car,
you can get the car scan at any shop
but not if car wont move out of drive way.
that would cost me, big towing charge to shop about 10 times the tools cost.
wont start, or wont move. or cant shift out of 1st gear, all problematic....
see?

the simple answer is no scan tool available in most of the garage here.
I have tried my best, ebay, amazon etc. Noone would ship that staff to Cambodia!!!!
Poor the Sport!!!!!
I confirm the P/N on that TCM sticker are:
38880-77E2 [1] [] 12V
SR003938 96E
AISIN AW CO, LTD Japan

ABS, yes. Cruise, no
Electric front mirror, no
Rear washer on the back door, no.
Only the doors mirrors are electric.

I think it is really a JX, not a JLX model.
I do not drive it at the moment. But start it regularly to keep the batery charged.

I went to the official Toyota garage and they would charge a higher price just to scan!!
Any other ways?
Best,

find someone on ebay that ships.
internationally, (there is search features just for that , i think)
ill keep looking.... more later
there is no other way...

the issues are>?
1; hand held only.
2: laptop? only.
3: android phone or? (some work here and with laptop)
4: does it need to work on cars 2004 and newer? this is called can-bus comminations. (most new tools have this)
very complex options, today. near endless when cell phones , were supported.
the are are different ways to connect,
blue tooth
wifi
and USB
choices.... abound....
not only that , some tools can do air bags. ABS too.

which box>? left or right, in photos? have this, and it is the TCM , no matter.
77E2 [1] the number in the brackets here, can change with revisions.

you asked about the other boxes, i cant answer until the tag p/n is disclosed.

the 77 code, means fits only on SPORTS, or Grand vitara;s

keep in mind, that today there are 1000s of tools sold, unlike, 10 +years ago. making choices harder, not more easy
vast differences in features sets.... and some are near useless. (code readers, are grossly limited)
key decisions are how much you have to spend. ? (this alone limits choices, as does international shipping, worse)
i recommend a hand held OBD2 full scan tool.
I recommend and INNOVA 3040. (low end choice ) see list below...
they can be had , new or used.

all purchases will be subject to your countries DUTY fee's... which i know zero about.
keep in mind most stores, will not be happy filling out long custom forms...
most EBAY sales show 48 state shipping ONLY , in red letters.
many sellers there EBAY are scalping, charging 3 times more than retail.

i recommend this , because if its easy of use. 1 part, 1 tool, plug it in and scan. easy simple and problems free. (unlike wifi, or blue tooth and USB laptops)

why not JEGS. shows Cambodia. as a ship too address. I buy from them all the time..

here is one tool 3140. ( they make many versions)

http://www.jegs.com/i/INNOVA/336/3040/10...oreDetails

this faq page covers a key questions.
Yes. The only Innova tools that offer Live Data functionality are the 3040, 3130, 3140, and 3160 Scan Tools.

if buying a scan tool, this is a key features, so you can watch sensors live.
these tools do not support, (innova, suzuki ABS or Air bags, just the PCM/TCM/ECU)

https://www.google.com/search?q=innova+3...8&oe=utf-8

or the 3040
click 3040 in this search box.
http://www.innova.com/en-US/Support/FAQs

shows what it can do.... FAQ.... it does lots.

keep in mind, if the transmission is slipping
that the scan tool will show speed sensor, PERFORMANCE codes.
a transmssion shop, knows this.
he : (in a nut shell)
road tests the car, and drivers aggressively to FEEL slip
then disconnects the tcm and shifts manually to see if trans, slips.. (this is covered in FSM book, all this.)
he see that each of the shift lever position, will activate the correct gear show in the FSM and on my main TCM page. (skips 3rd gear) as does TCM skip 3rd gear in TCM limphome mode.
he
does the stall tests. (shows weak engine, or shows, a slipping trans)
then
he does the line pressure tests.(per FSM using his gauges)
all after a full flush (ATF) and new filter, sure. (if AFT was not black and tar like.... dip stick tests, and smell of burnt ATF, he might in fact say, dont do a flush for CAUSE)
the scan tool is just one , part of all this. it's not the "computers know all tell all thing,, nor computers, saying, clutch plate 3 slips)
The scan tool is but one step in a process of steps. (as your pro transmission shop this....)

the G16 transmission is same. (TCM is tiny bit different , it is for sure different because of the extra 45hp engine power, has new shift tables. inside.)
this chapter covers all tests..... this is what your shop would do ,should do....

http://www.acksfaq.com/96-FSM-v1-7A-pdf.htm

03-72LE trans is your trans.
skip words about 3L30 (3speed)
