98 Sidekick Sport JLX manual transmission mount?
#1
Bought what was supposed to be a Sport transmission mount. Unless I have a unique vehicle, it ain't....
The one I was sold has single bolts front and rear on the top. My Sport has a double bolt mount on the front on top and no rear bolt. I've searched online and have only been able to find one that looks like the stock one on my car. But that one's listed for an automatic and I can't find part numbers to check if it fits both. (photo of the one available below)

So, does anyone know where to get a Sport transmission mount or part diagrams so I can figure this out? The other option seems to be a custom one made by Trail Tough which they claim is unbreakable. I haven't yet heard back from them on the price.

Thanks.

there are 3 cars then 2 bodies (wide frame sport)
3 transmissions
and 2 engines USA G16 and J18
none of those drive trains are the same. for sure.
are you talking the J18 sport and 2door or 4 most are 4 door, sure, but the 5speed tranny and 4drive all have different mounts
so 1998, j18, 4door? 5speed with 4wd? is this your car?
if yes I can tell the real SUZ partnumbers easy, for that car.

some version of this car sold in Canada have other options,  IDK them all but can look them all up.
the old lasted 23years, that is amazing,

have drawings

so does suzuki seen here

https://www.suzukicarparts.com/oem-parts...wtbDQtZ2Fz

see that? see that 77 code that is J18 codes/.
and not sold now, , but can be hand  used but aftermarket too maybe.

so you want the rear of 5speed mounts not the rear of transfer case damper?  (bottom)

post of photo of yours or of the mount in car now, best.  locations and exact locations really help buying parts.

my guess is you want the rear of the transfer case lower rubber mount with 2 studs in the mount.?

Thank you Mr. Fix, what a fantastic fount of knowledge you are.

So I didn't think about how many varieties there may be and didn't know that there were 2 door Sports. But to be as precise as I can, mine is a 1998 Suzuki Sport JLX trim, 4-door, 4wd, 5 speed manual transmission, USA model. I am looking for the front mount, that is Part #5 on the diagram.

However, when I look at that diagram, I may have been fooled by the way my mount looked. I checked for a mounting bolt that would join #6 to #5 but couldn't feel or see one and when checking the mount with my fingers it appeared that #5 and #6 were one piece. If I'm missing the bolt that might explain the problem and I may in fact have the correct part. I'll go and crawl back under the car, take some photos in case they are needed and investigate the bolt and mount further. It is also possible that I need the rear mount, Part #1.

My transmission seems to have been moving around a bit, I noticed during an underbody check the other day that the metal collar of the transfer case shift lever has been bent and the transmission seems to move more than I would expect.

Incidentally do you know if anyone has looked into parts availability in Poland? There is at least one company there that makes all kinds of suspension parts and lift kits parts for the late 90's Sport (Euro Vitara, available there with a little V6 and a diesel variant that makes about 10HP but LOTS of torque, not sure they even got a 4 cylinder) and they seem quite common and popular in that part of the world.

part 5 is  and matches my EPC catalog too.
1171060A01

there are no J18, outside of usa. or N.America, canada has some,

but

so 2 front engine side, mounts
then 1 front rear mount #5

and one rear transfer mount called a snubber by suzuki drawings

those front mounts have lots of part number changes, based on vin code 96-98 serials at the end of VIN.
so what is your vin serial.
Tnnnnnn
Vnnnnnn
Wnnnnnn (1998 is Whiskey coded vin serial
super complex this,.

see my photos.
ID1
on year 1998, serial W4109494~  (~ means this  an up sn) new front L/R mounts.
on year 1996, id 9/16 the 2 mounts changed,  (front center rear,  9 type, T4103335 then changed T4103336~ new(and yours)
part id 14 mount, changed, on sn, T410103335 1996)

and last what I think is wrong is transfer-case snubber beat to death as is so common .

ok here comes the 4 drawings from year 1998 original suz.
for J18 only 4wd doors, 5sp. (V code means VAN = 4doors)

5 minutes to put them in the Image gallery

as you can see suzuki lost there own receipt (details by VIN serial is clear.
T = 1996, and W 1998
so yours has all Tnnnnnn that are with ~ on end
and all Vcodes same rule
and all W codes if it matches yours.but non happened for W year.

cars have changes mid year builds and the VIN is what matters only. on this car all T,V,W changes.
the qty codes C/V are canvas and van top, 2dr and 4door.

damper 22 is what you seek I think.

cheers

"clear as mud" indeed! But thank you, I should be able to figure out part numbers from the pictures you posted. The the problem will be trying to find them...

I looked things over more carefully and while mine does seem to be one piece, It looks like the bolt that holds it together is only accessible when the mount is removed. I did try to figure out the rear mount but for the life of me I couldn't see how it all holds together or attaches to the car... But if it's a common failure point mine is probably bad too, it is 22 years old after all. The from mount rubber is definitely soft as well and show some signs of breakdown.

I did take some photos:

The VIN is JS3TD21V8W and then 7 numbers

I did take some photos but at this point I think I have the information I need. And if there were no 1.8 sidekicks outside the US then Poland would be of no use for these parts anyway.
