96 tracker down pipe
#1
Hi All, I was wondering if any one knows if this down pipe will work on a 1996 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1997-Geo-Tracker...2b&vxp=mtr it is for a 97 and po cut the cat out and rigged pipe in. I am looking to buy a new cat but if there is something else that will work, 1 piece unit with the down pipe, (Which is the part I really need ) I have mounting plate attached to muffler so I can make cat from rockauto work, I am not that particular, although i do need the downstream 02 sensor (which was cut) threaded insert on that end. Upstream is missing too, but rockauto has that available. So,If anyone has some ideas....cheers

unlike 92-95 , the 96+ cars are all 16v and are all 100% same exhaust manifold. no cal/fed unique sold or made by suzuki in USA./
i cant speak for any ebayer cloner, but , there is only one Suzuki part-number for this part.
it is 14190-58b02 (96-98)

the early years for this pipe, pre 96, were recalled do to , internal collapse and kills engine. (100% blockage) I have the TSB recall paper.
and suzuki ran out of the new part, nice , huh?
suzuki uses this same part on newer engines. and is insane expensive, (custom is cheaper, in any welding shop)
$350

http://suzukicarparts.com/parts/index.cf...eid=214820

i think we are lucky , some folks make them and sell them, give it a try and see how it fits. if the flags fits, but angle is wrong, any weld shop can cure that in a jiffy,

mr, bill. here is your, rag top parts list , , not all parts are over the top (no pun) expensive, some are very fairly priced.

thanks for the response fixkick, I just got an email from seller on ebay and he says it will fit 100%, we are kind of stuck, needing the part. so we will pay our money and take our chances. Like you said we can take it to muffler shop and get it fixed. I'll let you know how it turns out. I found another one here, http://www.partstrain.com/store/details/...99752.html but doesnt come with donuts, same price w/shipping, and not stainless steel. so, who knows. Cheers Bill

thanks and note the names there, (id hope that dorman would make parts for suzuki, they do the 8v)
but see that. Davico Davico

http://www.davicomfg.com/catalog2.aspx?t...&make=2306

looks like the part is so new, its not indexed yet, all good news. they are adding support.

the 95 had a EPA, internal, shell that glows red hot running, this helps, cut smog on cold starts. it was a total failure. that idea. (short lived, and kills engine) (the EPA idea works but not for long )
i think the 96 is devoid of this idea.

great news and thanks for sharing, those sources, ill add it to my hard to find page. $350 for $5 in pipe, is crazy.

davico promises to make custom cat system (oe fit) for less than new. and their P0420 page, is super good. says replace cat last. ! and they sell cats. so that is truth they say... amazing honesty,

This a project car for my 17 year old son, we sat down and went over all the stuff ive researched, he was amazed, i've logged countless hours on the internet, since friday night. I can get walker cat from rockauto, for 130 plus shipping, but I was in contact with ebay guy selling cats. we were looking at $89 special free ship, but he couldnt confirm that it had downstream 02 lug, here http://www.ebay.com/itm/Direct-Fit-Catal...82&vxp=mtr from pic it looks like it has lug, but w/o confirmation i wasnt going to take the chance. He offered this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/261042187999 which he new had 02 lug for $100 free ship, so we are going with that. Also found this deal(????) for front end parts for the 96 http://www.ebay.com/itm/230891608629 for $71 free ship (free ship are everyones favorites) Idk about the quality, but he is working on a budget, and has to be better than 17 year old parts. At any rate no problem on sharing info, you have helped so many, me included, I am just doing my part. cheers Bill

i see the rear 02 bung in your photo.
shows in the ecat (always look for ecats using names, like maremont, etc.
http://maremont.com/49_state_federal_converters_search/

let me explain, calif, they have their own EPA< called C.A.R.B, and most after market parts for this car, have not been tested by them.
so can fail you on visual, there.
I have their link , that allows you to look them up.... at Cal. ARB.
so just because, it says not calif, it may be the same parts..... in 96 this is true, in 95, is not, there is a unique exh pre 96 for cal kicks.

that DApart ,
id look here first to make sure they fit. is see many mistakes in their Ecat.

Hey gorkyb, they worked fine, after a front end alignment it drives like new. I need tires, and that will make a big difference. looks like that link is bad. Here is a new one that should be the same. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1997-Geo-Tracker...35c2365a35

thanks for the feedback, I inspected my front end parts with tires off the ground and a crawl bar pushing up to check for looseness and wiggling but did not notice anything, my next place to check will be strut mounts, I've been reading around that these mounts do not carry bearings in them? does anyone know for sure? rockauto's description is misleading some say mount assembly w/o bearing, some say w/bearing. I do not see any bearings listed here: http://www.oemsuzukiparts.com/parts/1996...am=1410156
