89-90 Sidekick throttle body differences
#1
Hi all,

Thank you for keeping up this truly amazing site and forum, a most invaluable resource in the Sidekick universe!

As the second owner of an 89 2-door convertible 4x4 M/T, I'm having some cold starting and general idling issues (nothing immobilizing, just not to spec) mainly because of a faulty throttle body due to age and previous tampering by inexperienced mechanics (the cold start IAC, butterfly valve movement, and probably a few other important things are not working properly). My mechanic suggested that I look for a good condition used throttle body (since new ones are discontinued) to swap in or work from. It seems that for the 89/90 kicks there were 4 throttle bodies available: manual California, manual Federal, A/T California, and A/T Federal. I can't tell if my car is California or Federal because the hood has been replaced so I can't trust the stickers, and I don't think the VIN is able to differentiate. So, are there differences between the 4 throttle bodies and if so, how can I tell which one I need? I found a good condition one on eBay, and it says it's from an 89 kick and will work on 89/90 2wd and 4x4 kicks and trackers, but doesn't specify anything beyond that. If the 4 throttle bodies aren't entirely interchangeable, are at least some of their internal parts? Any advice here would be greatly appreciated.

Random separate question: I installed a new Koyo radiator because the stock one was leaking and was wondering if I can still use the OEM radiator cap.

Sorry for the long post (my first) and many thanks for any and all input.

Kindest regards

if the cap fits and seals it ok, some rads new , have different caps. oddly.

yes, there only a few 98/90 TB its not that complex, the AT just has a different extra cable slot , so is ok, for you to use both. leaving extra slot empty.
calif (let me look at my factory catalog.) i don't think there were California versions. (ok there is but is just silly stuff)
i think someone still sells the ISC, (2 wire valve) new.
yes two listed at ROCK
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframec...ttype=6072

the iAC in the base if good, usually makes the whole TB good. as we can find the ISC.

the TB factory numbers are only 3. the calif one has 2 extra wire clamps. (the silly) i have the blow up parts list and see this....
13400-61a00, fed, a20 calif, and a60 late 89 FED, starting with body vin, (k4107239~)k means year 89

they are all the same, really, mostly. the A/T may have an extra bell crank for the kick down cable. (no cruise option so no cables of it too)
the A/T, TB has a base heater, but that is a desperate part,

this factory iSC p/n is. 13450-61A00 for $200 bucks.
the throttle body is in stock LOL for $2100 bucks (yes, next male unborn child)

the 61a60 body (late fed version)newest; is here. (ignore year below , im doing p/n direct look ups, (cheating)

usually only the lower idle valve goes bad (IAC thermal) and ends it. all else can be fixed. i think.

some times on ebay the whole intake and TB are like $25, so keep eyes peeled.
good luck to you .

and mixing up TB across 90 to 91 boundary blows up 91 ECU, the old ISC uses 2 time more current,
