#1
fixkick,

I did some quick calls on 75W-90 prices in NE Ohio. Here is what I found...

QT Oil Prices: 75W-90. All oils were GL5 with most specifying GL4 compatibility.

GL5 Oils at O

most of them all will work , but real GL4 is best.
some oils shift nicer than others. its a matter of luck that.
yes mobile 1 , web site FAQ says dont use it.

i get mine at Napa, just reg. gl4,
there are many others that are both,,,, many.

gl4 is for synrco's.
gl5 is for hypoid gears, extreme pressure rated for such nasty gears. (some kinds eat the brass sychros , not driven often)
a regular box needs a gl4 oil only for nice shifting. if the oil is sticky it can bind the synros, and be slow shifting beast.
GL3 is never to be used
and MT rated gear oil is for crash boxes. as used in 1959 school buses and dump trucks of that era. long gone. (is used to drive one, FUN !)
crash boxes have no synchros at all, you must double clutch every gear, ....

i think cost is not an issue, all are good, only how nice she shifts, and for sure in cold weather.

here is a cheap bastard. doing it, me.
i heat it first in hot water in bucket

then it slides in easy.
