#1
1996 2 door 4x4 1.6 16v Tracker hardtop - Anyone now where or if I can find weather seal for my hardtop ? Seal at body to top is dryrotted and needs replaced, thot id see if oem may be available before I try to retro-fit with aftermarket. Second Question:Keeps throwing a P0400 code (Exhaust Gas Reciriculation Malfunction) removed egr valve and cleaned and seems to be functioning (plunger movement) seems ok. Noticed some one used the dreaded silicone for gasket . maybe some was injested in valve regulater connected to egr? any test procedures for my problem or other reasons causing the code? Thanks

p400s is EGR failure,
see my EGR MONO port cleaning?
this car has 2 tests for EGR, test A and B. both must pass and there is no fooling like 95 and older (egrt sensor fooling)
The one is cruise test and other the cut fuel coast to stop test, the scan tool shows which it is. if you look at vacuum and rpm in the expanded, mode, called freeze frame data.
this fact of the freeze frame tells use what mode fails.
the EGR is only active on this car, hot and must be moving.
making testing not easy at all.
my stall test. (if the works and i bet it wont) is always first.
my bark test.?
last is the life test, but is very tricky test. (takes 2 persons
clean the mono port yet,; never seen one not packed 100% ever. so.......

this is what I call a gen 3 system and 96 is that, in USA are you USA? canada my not be this. see? until 1998.
my page just for this car. is here,

is your Cat converter missing, if yes, EGR will never work again, impossible
due to MODulaotor goes off line for ever.

most mono port EGR years. late 95 to 98.
the mono port in the intake manifold it 100% plugged up, and the stall test fails. hard.
there 4 systems to fail here.
1: exhaust path
2: vacuum path
3: electric path to ECU and Vsv.
4: cat missing makes the modulator dead.

each can be tested. i do the stall test and bark test. first. most times you go in the correct direction, to the actual cause.
if the bark test passes, then I make sure the vacuum side is working. using vacuum gauge and handpump (all in on tool)
