1990 Geo Tracker Speedometer Cable

Hello again!

Is there an available OEM Suziuki Sidekick speedometer cable that also fits:

1990 Geo Tracker
2-door LSI convertible 4X4

If so, I'm looking for the Suzuki Part number.

The only non-OEM replacement I've found is:
ATP Y-893 Speedometer Cable

(Record Scratch Sound) Disregard the speedometer link to parts.com...apparently they no longer fulfill Suzuki part orders. This might also explain the low price!

Thanks for the great site info & TradeMotion links...each year it gets harder and harder to find parts! I used to hear "you bought the last available part" from my GM/ACDelco parts contact. Ha-Ha!

dont you just love, web sites like that,?

yes, many parts are discontinued and many web sites show it in stock when in fact is not , or the opposite, show no parts at all but are in the warehouse.

but do ask, and we can get the p/n so you can search the web sites. some don't list it but if you do the actual p/n search bam, there it is..... amazing.
suzuki does not have accurate information on parts inventory, online at all. (it's like a half way attempt)
one more reason to chapter 11.
imo.

btw2 they never ever sold the fuel filter clamp, the oddest thing ever...
and yes, the door seals are zero now. (window wipe seals in outside of door)
and suzuki had (has) an internal network to check other dealer stock (not all dealers have it) but can be good to find NOS parts)

WOW! It's been over a year since I asked the question about the speedometer. I can say I bought it but I never installed it thanks to fixkick (see below).

I had originally bought the cable to replace mine that began squealing during the winter of 2013-14. Honestly, I wasn't looking forward to snaking that cable through the firewall bending it behind the aftermarket head unit and finally making its way to the cluster. I would plan on doing the job but knowingly schedule something else in its place.

Finally, after tackling another maintenance issue and having it up on stands, I decided to try lubricating the cable first instead of replacing it -- thanks to a post by fixkick on another forum. I unscrewed the knurled nut and removed the cable from the transfer case. The cable pulled out of the sheath with relative ease. It was a little bit rusty and extremely dry. Didn't seem to be damaged so I cleaned it and used super lube starting at around 8-12 inches below the speedometer cable end. The only problem I had was pushing the cable back up the sheath. It would get stuck at the the last two inches. After trying unsuccessfully for 20 minutes, I figured I would need to remove the cluster but it was actually a lot easier than that. All I needed to do was remove the cluster screws and ease the sharp bend of the speedo cable by slightly lifting the cluster upwards tilting it towards the front of the car. The remaining two inches of cable slid back up with a final slight counter-clockwise turn and the transfer case side of the cable was seated against the ferrule.

Just wanted to say thanks to fixkick and offer my experience to someone else looking to do this job. My Tracker is a 1990 so I'm not sure if all years can be pulled from below like mine or not? If so, it's worth trying before replacing the entire cable when dealing with the cold weather squeal.

that is correct the early car has less work,,, to get to the back off cluster
later the laws for side impact beams , make this more difficult.
thanks so much for sharing, other will want to do that, and is true getting the cable back and that square end dogged in can be hard, pushing from below.
but worth a try. push and spin, and it might just go in, .
yes, all cables in these cars all pull out.
top to bottom but not bottom to top.
this method works on vast number of car. many have just a flattened end square drive, taking up zero space , outside radius of cable.
