1.6 8v

does the engine have 150pSI compression or 70PSI , wide open throttle tested, if not 150 X4, then the cam belt is bad. simple tests work best.
if the belt slips CMP goes of time (and cam)
if the belt dies (snaps/slips) the CMP goes dead DTC 42 happens, and all spark ends and fuel too.
if 42 happens 41 also happens due to now dead ignitor. and fuel ends too. no injections happen ever with Code 41 or 42 or BOTH>
if cam spins correctly, then 42 is not stored (set) and 41 means COIL side is dead.
this is how all 8v are checked
and spark only at the coil directly , never at the distributor on rubber band cam engines. until coil works then at distributor is next checks for spark x4.
this is the order. answering for stock cars not modified,
fues fires, some can hair line crack and be bad use OHM meter to test them 0 is good, infinity bad.
or use voltmeter key on, both sides of fuse are 12v. a good fuse it is.

ahhhhhhhhhh crap,, you hijacked the other guys post.  i did not notice that till; now.
my strong apologies to OP, for my answers wrecking your fine post. (OP = original poster)

thank god both engines are 8v, at least its on track , OP car is frankensammi-kick.
so does sill apply if lost spark  on any 8 valve

THE CEL must work, if not , you work blind and go broke fast, for sure. on all cars made with that CEL lite, 99% of cars are. 89 up.

what does FSM mean , even Suzuki still sells the manual" factory service manual" as in OEM factory not some dream of Chiltions. 3rd party.
