off road buggy 2.0 drivetrain swap
#2
(02-04-2021, 09:53 PM)re-evaluating Wrote: Hello newb to the forum though I have been a long time lurker and try to read everything before asking stupid questions. I have looked a about every link I can find and it seems my situation is slightly different than most of what I am finding. I have an off road buggy based off a 89 sidekick (minus body). I understand it is a "narrow" frame and this causes problems fitting the 2.0 but what I don't seem to be finding is where the interference issues are. I am swapping engine and trans/transfer case etc. (2.0 auto trans) This buggy doesn't even have a factory floor pan to be concerned with, but frame rails are intact. We will be fabricating motor and trans mounts as expected but wondering about what other physical issues we will need to be concerned with.  Motor arrives Saturday then we will see where it goes. Any input would be appreciated.
Welcome Mr. Lurker !!!
not sure me. in total J20 over G16. but.
but mounts stock are no good.  all must be custom and or adapted.  new rear prop shaft I think.
the only issues I can think of is the 2.0 liter engine pan may hit the front axle center pig casing. if not already jacked up.
the wider frame on the newer cars I think is for also fitting in a V6.  H25 or up.
2.0l swaps are common in the arena and class of car  here, G16s.
also the j18 fits in to any Esteem sedan. so that too has parts that fit front wheel drive, but may have special pan that fits better in other cars. (j18 and 20 share major parts)
I typed this page but is  from what  all other told me.

most is obvious  but pan issues, IDK, not sure. but is something to check.
