help with engine swap
#1
I recently acquired a canadian 1996 geo tracker 4x4 5sp manual soft top. It has a blown engine (6 inch hole in block where oil filter used to be). The blown engine is a 16v obd2 engine (i'm told you can tell by it having a post cat o2 sensor).

It also came with a 1.6l 8v engine that I'm told is out of a 92 tracker with 120000km on it. It has both manifolds on it still, distributor and a torque converter.

I am told that there is no way to swap the sensors from the old 16v engine to the 8v engine, swap the oil pump/pan and crank sensor and swap the distributor to make the 8v engine work with the obd2 ecu.

I picked this Geo up to replace my 89 suzuki sidekick. My 89 suzuki runs great, engine was rebuilt a few years ago, but sadly pretty much every moving part on the body is broken and the frame is rotting. I'm going to pull the engine/wiring harness/ecu from my 89 and put it in the 96.

I just want a second opinion on whether you can convert an 8v engine to obd2 before I start.

Thanks for any information you can provide.
