bingo.  lots of persons contributed to cures, some are bad ideas,. but shows the range of fixes, (one guy tack welded the key in place, in perfect TDC 0 time using a real TDC tool)
the key is only for initial installation and never holds the cog from going lose or slipping only the huge bolt does that and acts like huge spring.
