obd1 FAQ'S
1: THERE IS NO OBD1 TOOL THAT WORKS ON ALL OBD1 CARS, THERE IS NO SUCH TOOL! (THE ERA ENDED IN 1995 USA) THE TECH1, OR TECH2 COMES THE CLOSEST TO OBD1 SUPPORT,
that means a honda tools do not fit a suzuk nor does the Toyota. sorry. (they are vastly different cars, end to end)
fact 2, OBD1 is used in other countries way after USA laws banned them here in 1996, seen them in places in up to 2001 or 2004, outside USA.
2: SORRY, THE $10,000 SNAPON™ TOOL DOES NOT WORK ON ANY G16 PRE 96 SUZUKI, CAR's period,. nor do most others made, high end tools,. ask them see that empty SUZUKI support page at (pick your makers tools now)?
older than 1996, facts. ( ive contacted them all and the answer is NO) (out side usa, how knows, ??? seen some rumored in Australia but zero details there)
3: USA laws invented OBD1, (California, ARB laws, did that then EPA fed mimic it) IT NEVER ONCE standardized the test tools, nor ports ,nor protocols, nor data structures.!!!!
4: USA law EPA mandated OBD2 here in the USA, with vast changes, including standard test tools, that check only federal listed items... we invented OBd2 here, and now cloned world wide..
rule 4 means you can buy a tool for $10 for your laptop and scan any post 95 car in usa, facts. sweeping and radial changes here.... and if CEL is out you pass smog, OMG sweeping changes.
consider this? OBD1 has no relationship to OBD2 at all, except both are ECUs' and both run engines and both have DTCs and live data that can nOT BE Seen on OBD1. like you can on OBD2.
The software and hardware between them are totally different.
5: there are hacking tools sold and change, in time, some go bye-bye, and this will get worse at time goes on for rare cars like this... worse every year to...
6: no body gets rich selling one car only scan tools, that fit one makers car and one engine,. if you sell said car, the tool is near worthless, unlike any OBD2 tools sold.
no lie the rhinotool is the best made!, buy one and tell all how you like it, it is not sold at Walmart nor at Macy's nor at Grand Auto or Autozoned, no.... not now or ever.
