The air temp sensor was missing on early, 16v engines. (its only fine tuning device, unlike the 8v)
if missing , (on ecu that use it) it will throw a DTC error. running. code 23, it might force you EFI to Failsafe mode.
it is listed i the book as just that. here. using the old name "ATS" so is needed, on all cars, requiring it.

EGRT, its called,
since the CAT is missing then the EGR is dead anyway, (the EGR mode , uses cat back-pressure to run EGR flows)
so its a moot point, forget all that. and use the resistor fooling device.
Some ECU's, use the (what i call calif) egr2, system. it has a new thermoprobe (by 1995 all G16b have this probe.!)
here it is.

this sensor screws in to the side of the EGR main valve. (it's a thermistor , device)
and had a harness connector near by, to connect this cable up.
so on the newer ECU's , that demands this part, we put a 10,000 ohm resistor on the 2 ecu matching pins, (if not you get DTC code 53)
Some ECUs, will go to penalty mode with 53s (or 51) and run rich, (to avoid NOX pollution , the worst of the 3)
seen here B17 to B15

as you can see B21 is IAT
how is that?
the only issue with a/T ECT is pin A22 (may need jump to A2) but mine didnt need it at all . this jump.
