keep in mind, using epoxy will not like dirt. oil, grease , gas, or other contaminants.
if the metal had gas stains, it will not stick to the plating or the metal may be weak and fail to bond.
if you do use epoxy sand the surface well and clean it with brake cleaner or carb cleaner so it is pristine clean.
then epoxy it.
I guess youve never seen a gas fire.
