front oil seal leaking {crank seal? cam seal}
#6
he all, Not sure if I should post on my existing thread, but here goes. Son had car here the other morning and was off to a ball game. I checked the oil in his car and it was close to 2 and a half quarts low, from the leak. yes I always tell him to check the oil..any way he got the riot act read to him (again) added new oil and off he went. i got a phone call 45 minutes later and his car was broke down. at any rate I got the car home and the fan belt was broken. (only one year old, too) we just finished up a compression test, so all is good there, 180 psi across the board.
Not sure if this part is normal, but we damn near broke every plug wire, trying to get them off. So, maybe I bought cheap ones, or the motor got hot enough to melt the rubber onto the head. So my question is, is there a better spark plug wire that will take the heat, or use vaseline or similar to reduce the chance of this. plastic parts would just crumble on a couple of them. wasn't sure if we were going to get them out, without pulling the valve cover for a while there.
So my next step on the oil leak, is to do a sneak peak in side the timing belt cover. i'm sure it is oily as hell there, and see if it is leaking from the head gasket. I do have everything removed enough now to pull valve cover, and verify this way and a new valve cover gasket (felpro). thanks for your time. Bill
